Thanks Heather! It's still one of my favorite shots and I haven't been able to beat it yet. It kinda surprised me that it did as well as it did, being a pet shot and all, I'm just glad it did. :-) Now my goal is to try and surpass it and make a top 10. I know, lofty dreams but.....

I can tell you one thing though, it definetly isn't going to happen with my Parts shot. :-)

Pretty good, since I thought the shot itself wasn't that good.
Overall average: 5,13 (hey, how about showing that on our profile page?)

Moose101 you have got the right atitude for this site as long as you are willing to take the crit. and turn it in to more great shots you'll be fine also no one has an easy time at frist.

Blackdog the way the pages work your shot as well as the ones you vote on will all ways be on the last pgs. when you are loged in, but for others the shots flot around so pretty much everyone gets viewed.

my frist shot got 157 place in touch w/an avg. vote of 4.768

just take and use thecomments to your advantage

My first submission was for backlighting.

Place: 25 out of 367
Avg (all users): 6.186
Avg (commenters): 7.273
Avg (camera): 6.159
Avg (no camera): 7.333

I was pretty happy. I really need to get off my A$$ and start submitting to more.

I think you were robbed on that first submission colda. That's a good photo that deserved a better score.

My first ever submission was a rather lucky 11th place back in the days before spot editing was allowed.

Avg 6.384

Not my best score ever but my highest ranking.

Well, I don't think I have any fingernails left! As Blackdog has pointed out, I'm in the same boat. That's right my 1st challenge, my username is Moose101 for a reason! I'm working to move up from photography 101 (yeah, in about 10 years ;-) but you have to start off somewhere. I'm here to learn and try not to show up on the last page. However, it's all about taking a shot (literally) and coming up with something that's unique and creative that fits the challenge.

So win or lose ... I learn with every shot and hopefully afterwards getting some constructive comments will only improve my future photographs.

Just wanted to say to all, I've seen some unbelievable photographs on this website. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

My "first" was a double-header: Blue Moon 5.172 and Miniture (I didn't understand the directions -- go figure: a shool teacher who can't read directions) 4.455. My 2nd/3rd was Hope with another below-5, but at least I've been above 5 since then. Hope I can progress as well as Eric did by my 12th entry.

Communication is my first ever challenge entry, not being on the last page would be nice.

I found it difficult to try and come up with something that seemed slightly different, not too obvious.

Nervously awaiting results........

1st 5.10
2nd 4.619....
my average score after 5 challenges was 4.95
Looks like I have been lucky since then and my last 7 entries scored above 6.0 and I am at an average of 5.81 after 13 submissions ;)

4.29 ... And it's still one of my favorite shots :)

Wacky foods was my first entry. did a last minute set up, scores showed. But it was worth it to just get the ball rolling.
Place: 108 out of 154
Avg (all users): 4.625
Parts is my second entry and is doing much better. And I just submitted an entry for communication. I hope I have the upward curve of some of you others that do so well.
It's good to be part of something that really pushes you to get better. And I don't think that that means your score is better every time, sometimes good/great photos just don't get the scores. I think we have to keep that in mind (that is not my case yet though)

'Parts' is my first challenge and I didn't really expect to do well in it. (Which is lucky cos so far I'm not, lol) I've very much enjoyed it though, and I'm looking forward to more challenges.

My first entry yielded this stellar result:

Avg Vote: 4.075
Place: 147/148
Percentile: 1%

Hopefully defining feature turns out better :)

I figure its either the brown or I'm movin' up!

This is a great learning experience.

Then it jumps all over the place

My first one was 5.668 / 81%:

My second challenge was more in line with 4.764 and 37%:

I've only topped my first submission twice! :)

My first challenge was 4.992 with this pic:

My average vote recieved is 5.4282 and slowly creeping up although my current score in 'defining features' is only 4.6222, I don't worry too much though - I'd rather enter a pic for review and learn how to improve than waiting and only entering challenges when I have the 'perfect' pic. I've learnt enough to know that the latter approach will only destroy my love for photography, given enough time.
