Make sure you're super-realistic with your travel costs, is one bit of advice. DON'T short-change yourself. Charge everything it costs you AND mark it up (that's for the overhead). Or negotiate a generous per diem for expenses.

Anyway, awesome news! You've made it!

YES! LOL... Travel to Portland and the next show in Lynn, MA won't be a problem since I'm right in the middle in Dover. I've thought about you guys since I've been up here, but I've no car to come visit.

I probably did shortchange myself at $300/show, but I've been doing it for free up until now and this foot in the door is priceless! I haven't given him a number for the posed group shots. I'm sure now that I'll be asking for lodging where they are staying so I can get up there and scout things out.

Wait...you're in Dover? as in Dover, NH? I am in Biddeford...20 minutes South of Portland and about 30 minutes out of Dover....How can I help? Besides this LETS HAVE LUNCH!!!! I will drive.

To be totally honest, all I had at the first shoot was my D700 and my 70-200 2.8. Looking back, that's a little embarrassing.

I was walking backstage and I heard Robert Lamm quietly say "Hey Cindy". So I stopped and leaned in the doorway. He says, "This is my best angle". He's sitting just inside the doorway looking towards the back of the dressing room. I'm leaning on the other side of the doorway looking at this beautiful man whose voice I've danced to since high school. He's pretty much asking me to take a picture of him and all I have is a 70-200 and the dressing rooms in this place used to literally be jail cells. Needless to say, the first thing I did after the show is invest in the 24-70.

So, for the show coming up, I'll have my D700, the 70-200 2.8, the 24-70 2.8, and I'll be renting a 2nd body (I hear there's a new Nikon with super ISO powers). I'm also considering renting something a little wider for the pre-shoots of the new guys and perhaps a 400mm if I can find one I can afford.

Wally says his favorite photos are the ones taken from the balconies because it makes his chin look younger. :)

Thanks for the comments guys! I really miss it around here!

Wow! If that's what you're giving them... they need to pay you more than three times what you were getting!

Those are fabulous! Well done! I'm so excited for you!

Hey Cynthia - I was on a two year hiatus when this thread came out and I started reading from the beginning as if it was new, then saw these most recent posts. Congratulations on all that you've accomplished in the past few years! I'm really stoked for you. You're kicking ass out there and an inspiration to many. Keep on!

Welp, I got a call not too long ago. Chicago wants me back after a really bad experience with a photographer who was working for them for free.

According to my contact, the original members asked for me by name and I was able to ask for and get 3 times what I asked for last time. She also told me they were considering having it be a regular monthly thing for however much longer they stay out on the road (going on 52 years not, I think, lol).

So anyway, they have 3 new members and one guy that moving from percussion to drums, so I have 4 individual staged shoots before the show even starts.

I'm so excited and feeling more than a little validated. I think that's the word.

In other news, I'm still living in German Village, Columbus, OH, the local magazine has dubbed me the "resident photographer", and they have given me a full page pet feature for my now adventures in dog photography.

For those of you that know me, this is the first time since I quit my 9-5 that I've reached my income goal and I've already exceeded it in bookings for next month! So... I think I can officially consider my decision to quit a good decision... I am thoroughly enjoying my current situation!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pics coming... I need to re-figure out how to do it here. It's been a while...

I'm still culling and haven't even touched anything with Ps yet, but I love this pic of Lee entering stage right. Lots more later... :)
