Yeah pretty bad. USPS charges 25 bucks for Priority pretty much anywhere in Europe(it's fast though), and there is no cheaper/slower option...

Did you look into the possibility of "Media Mail" offered by USPS or the First-Class Package International Service - Retail?
I have no idea if the Media Mail rate is available for international shipping, but they do offer it for domestic shipping and the costs are significantly lower.
It might be worth your while to look into this.
Personally, I live close enough to the border than I will simply give you the USPS Store address in Ogdensburg, NY and pick it up there.

Ray, there is no Media Mail option for international shipments, the cheapest is First-Class Package International Service to UK, $23.18 online price, vs. $25.25 Priority Mail International® Padded Flat Rate Envelope, which is much faster and more reliable and only two bucks more (to Canada it is $16 vs. $21). Even though I would spend more than I charge for shipping it this way (if you count packaging and handling), I would rather do that and have a peace of mind. As for domestic, yes, there is Media Mail option, but it is slower and no tracking, plus I have to provide my own envelope and padding, and also only about $2 less, so I also prefer use Priority Padded Flat Rate Envelope.

I received my book yesterday. OMG! I knew I would be blown away. Lev has never shown one image that didn't inspire me. But, I was blown away even more than I expected! What a high-end, masterful work! The parallel universe photos are nothing short of brilliant! I was pleased by how thick the book is... so much more time to sit on my porch with a glass of wine and be inspired by every page :)

I'm sad, tho, that I don't have time to participate in the challenge. :( I'm a little behind on a couple of deadlines, so I know I won't have time this week to hit the streets. *snif*

Way to go, Lev! This is a masterpiece that I will treasure forEVER!

Got my copy yesterday; wow, a beautiful compilation. I went through quickly the first time, just for a glance, and now going through slowly to savor.

I received mine today! YAY! It's awesome, Lev - beautifully done, and quite a lovely addition to my coffee table photography books! I'll just not let anyone know right away that it's not mine... maybe they won't notice. :-)

What a surprise - or maybe I have not been paying attention as usual. Quite impressive for a physicist to be so serious about photography. Or maybe is follows naturally, given your weltanshauung and amicable personality. Nice work and I'll have to have it some day, a prize perhaps? Or maybe just pony up the cash and do it.

Sorry if I keep bumping this thread, it is an accident.

Ok , I will imagine how it is ,using the Internet and the power of my mind while hugging a tree.

I think that will be good enough.

Thanks.

I just received my Parallels Book!! Woo Hoo!

Lev, you have done an amazing job here. I want so bad to just look at every page and get through the book just so I can see all the moments. But I am going to restrain my energy and enjoy each pair of images and take my time to get to the end of the book. Your book is bringing on a new level of appreciation for me. Thanks.

And I neglected to also mention that Paul, ubique has also done a fantastic job of writing. Well done.

I'm a little concerned about introducing prizes into the "official" challenge structure -- maybe you could award the prizes to your personal favorites in the challenge instead, as that's entirely your option ...
ETA: Oh, and congratulations!
Thanks Paul. I don't quite understand why it is concerning? I recall there were in the past some prizes (DPC hats?) awarded to winners of Free studies, no?

Maybe -- though some were awarded for other things too (must've been 'cause I have one!) ... I've just always thought part of the charm of the site was that we compete for honor, not material gain ... but I guess you can give copies to whomever you want anyway, so it's not that big a deal.

I would of thought this was just the sort of thing the site needs.

Considering some of the hue and cry we occasionally witness about possible infractions, low scores, DNMC views, and other issues of contention, this is most definitely not something we should contemplate.

Or maybe put it up as a prize (heck, 3 prizes!) for a street photography challenge?

NOW you're cooking. Let's do that soonish, if you're interested :-) If you get a ribbon in your own challenge, the book goes to the Brown? Jejeje... "Book It! : the LevT Street Challenge"

sure, I would be up for that! (except for the Brown part :), I'd rather pass it on to the 4th)
