You're right, I got the Side-by-Side challenge and the Minimal Editing challenge conflated. The clickable link we had to fix is in the "Crooked" challenge. Sorry for the confusion.

the link that gets you here

Nothing clickable in the extra rules. ????

I agree. There's nothing clickable in mine, either. Only a url that you can copy and paste. And my confusion stems from the fact that I did exactly that. But then all this other stuff started coming up because of the part saying "parts of one image may overlap the other". In this case, we would have been better off without the url of examples, clickable or not, since those examples and what's apparently allowable are pretty different.

How is this NOT clear? How much clearer could we be?

I guess the "parts" bothered me a bit. How much is a part? Can I basically drop an entire person on the right side of a picture even though it's a top and bottom put together? It seems like I could then drop almost anything I wanted into the other photo as long as part remained the the other half. I could have a giant hand reaching down from the sky and picking up a tiger in two fingers. That seems more like expert editing... Instead of finding silly things that go together like the original idea link.

Okay to make things better for the next time, but it really hurts those who prepared an image two days ago, based on the official proclamations. Furthermore, it's not reasonable to expect all members to read every forum thread. Especially when there is league play in process, it's not fair to alter rules midstream in obscure forum threads.

We haven't altered a thing, the challenge is exactly as it was posted, and will remain so. The only thing we did is to make the link in the flagged rules clickable.

Hi Catherine -- mspaint copy/paste, or Gimp, or Sumopaint, among tons of other options. :)

Without Photoshop? Assuredly. But you need SOME sort of image processing. Even basic photo editors allow you to create montages of more than one image.

Whoa... Parts? So we can mask out stuff from one to get it to fit with another? That does seem more expert editing and kinda defeats the purpose of the side by side. I thought the whole idea was to do something photoshoppish without the photoshopping. This takes away a lot of the difficulty.

I sure couldn't figure out how to do this without photoshop.... I'm getting a crash course in layers which is a good thing, but kind of stressful on such a tight timeline. Is there anyway to do this challenge without photoshop? I would love to hear how that would work....

I don't think they were altered. I think they were just explored and explained. There's no reason to question if things are crystal clear. So while I wish it was just straight edge against straight edge, I think it's better to ask the questions when things are as clear as mud. :)

Opinions differ, photography has rarely ever only been about what you capture in camera.

Kind of the equivalent of minimal but allowing crop and rotate.

Not pet Bear's reply in the thread and the ArtROFLMAO photo referenced. You have two images and can use layer masking.

Therein lies the rub, imho those (currently me included) that 'blur' the distinct images are going to find their image is a point or 2 below it's anticipated resting place as not everybody bothers to fully read the challenge description or thread :(

Well there is that.
