One of my favorite subjects to shoot. Unfortunately we haven't had a good one here in years. This is the best one I shot so far:

No bolts, but lightning lights up the clouds below -- taken with my Olympus P&S while flying back from Chicago in September, 2001. Here is an image taken from a little higher up ...

Stacked several shots to get that one looking that way. Lighter color blend mode IIRC.

Here are a couple of mine from years ago. A storm passed through last night, but wasn't able to stop to take pics.

Here's one with some color to it. This was July 07.

I shot this about a year ago. I had ridden my bike out to one of my usual turnaround points out around Benbrook lake at the top of a hill. The sky was clear except for one cloud off in the distance. Then it started lighting. But the sky by me was clear. I had brought my DSLR and a flimsy, but portable tripod. Out of about 150 shots, this one was the best of the bunch, though it still wasn't up to being challenge material, or I would have used it in the freestudy that month.

Downtown Fort Worth can be seen in the lower left corner.

I thought the storm was over the mid cities area about 25 miles away. I found out later that it was actually over the city of McKinney, which is a good 50 or 60 miles away on the far northeast side of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Someone else posted a photo on Facebook that looked like this storm was over downtown Dallas, but was still a fair amount away from there.

Ooo, this could be my favorite side challenge ever. I love lightning! Whether or not I will see lightning and be able to enter is yet to be determined, but I'll certainly be watching.

Also a few years ago.

Good idea for a side challenge. I'll be watching for storms this summer.

2015 Storm Side Challenge

I did not get any sleep last night because a beautiful lightning storm came through
About 3am I was like ooo I need to get to bed. LOL

I totally missed all the awesome shots of the spider lightning that goes across the sky, but I was able to capture FINALLY
My first bolt from the K-3

Use this spring and summer to capture any storm/lightning photos.
Share here when you get something :0)

I think this year will be a fun surprise of awesome storms
