....feedback that is :)

I liked this pic and although I never expected anything near the top ten I wonder if it could have done a little better. I feel that the focus could be a bit sharper and maybe some voters will mark it down because the image is disturbing rather then pleasing to the eye.

I would really appreciate any further feedback so I can hopefully correct the errors of my ways :)

unedited version:

Thanks in advance

I like the colour one much better... I think the "feel" of it is more obvious when one can actually see the blood and the razor properly. While I usually prefer black and white, I think the colour would have done better.. or maybe a selective desat with just the blood left in colour.

Ahhh my fellow self mutilator. :)

I think we both suffered a bit with the voters who don't like blood BUT I expected that and it dosen't faze me.

At least I used fake blood. Bob

Edit: lol just went to my photo to look at the spread of votes and you have left a comment there... Great minds! :)

Darren, IMHO I think the focus is just right for this type of shot. It gives it the "Hitchcock effect". It is a little disturbing to me if you would actually bring harm to yourself to get a shot. I love photography, but I wouldn't cut myself for the sake of it. Please understand, this is just my opion, but I think many will vote something down like this because of the shock of someone injuring themself to get a shot - even if it's just a small cut. You sure are serious about you're shooting :).

O', and your post title is "Please sir, can I have some more". If you were to attach that title to this photo.... Talk about your "Hitchcock effect"!!

Thanks for the comment Ray, it is indeed real blood although it's not from my finger, it was donated by a picked scab on leg :)

I like the idea of been so commited to the art that I'll slice my own body for the desired effect, but alas I'm a little too squeamish for that, additionally I have a little belonephobia (fear of sharp things esp. needles) and because of this I will not go to doctors, dentists etc, I tremble with fear at the thought of someone else touching me with anything like that - to the point that the few piercings I have I had to do myself.

I have to take a deep breath before I even pick up that razor - and nope I've never shaved with it *shudder*

Cheers

Hi

I would agree with the other poster I prefer the B&W it gives a Hitchcock effect, the colour just does not cut it for me :) the B&W has so much more scary feel factor to it!

Thanks Julia,

I thought about using selective desaturation but I was concerned it would look a little too 'over-the-top', but after your suggestion I thought I'd give it a go just to see :)

The blood looked very unreal so I adjusted the levels and destaurated it slightly

umm, is selective desaturation ok in open challenge?

if you can do it just by choosing a particular color (in the hue/sat menu) and desaturating it, yes. if you need to select a region of the photo and desat that specific region, no.

fair point - here's a legal sel-desat, not finished, still have a bit on the top of the finger, but you get the idea :)
