I am afraid I don't understand this. But I'll try to figure it out.

I wear glasses so I am fine alternating between viewfinder and screen. BTW, I am in two minds about using the tilted screen. Was told that it can get defected easier.
I have a 27 mmm lens but I doubt that I can use it much with X-T30.

Just saw that they came up with X-T200, lightweight etc.

Thanks.

Yes, water is a problem but not enough for me to get the X-T3 for that reason - this last one is heavier also and I try to reduce weight as much as possible.
Did not learn well my new camera so far - seems like setting the ISO is in 3 steps, a wee more complicated; battery and memory card together etc
Somehow X-T30 seems a bit more fragile but it could be my impression.

I am amazed by the quality of sensor etc.

Yes, the sensor is great as is the size of the camera.

You might want to consider this add on though...

https://www.amazon.com/Kiwifotos-KE-XT20-Eyepiece-Viewfinder-Eyeglass/dp/B07QMKCVXH

It's a bit large but if you like the viewfinder more than the screen like me, it helps to block stray light. That's one design flaw of the X-T30, the eyecup doesn't have a rubber attachment like the bigger models. This fixes that.

"Still have my X-T1. which works great. Though the rubber "cover" providing grip over the metal camera is loose on the right side and moves around a bit. (Known problem with the X-T1.) "

I had this too. Mine came off completely in the end. I just glued it back down - not a huge issue.

Just to update my case:

I bought an X-H1 in November or so, since the deals were so sweet, and I could replace my 18-135 in a combo deal. Both for $1500 or so.

I think it's great (though I'm so busy these days, I've had little chance to really get out and shoot with it). Grip is wonderful, shutter button like butter (in a good way), quiet too. Feels good in the hands, if you don't mind a camera about the size of a Nikon D7100.

But I missed my X-T30 (the small size), so I bought a new one (old one couldn't be fixed for less than $650, brand new one was $799).

Now I have both. The X-T30 is a top notch camera, just don't get it wet. :)

X-H1 is weathersealed (but SLR size).

An X-T4 is on the horizon, with built in IS and about the size of the X-T3.

Still have my X-T1. which works great. Though the rubber "cover" providing grip over the metal camera is loose on the right side and moves around a bit. (Known problem with the X-T1.)

I'm very late to this discussion as well, so apologies. But I've had Fuji Xt-1s and more recently an XH-1 for about 4 years. No trouble with any of them. They've travelled a lot, taken many 1000s of images and are still going. I like the lenses too. I'd recommend Fuji.

Thanks Mark. I am with you on the Fuji. John jagar advised me 6 years ago knowing what I do and my particularities and he was so very right. Granted, Fuji is not weatherproofed like Olympus and cannot be taken to Sahara or into the depth of the oceans, but it's so nice otherwise. I am still taking pics with the gravely ill X E2 until I get the X T30

Not totally...the attraction of the Sony to me is mainly FF sensor, incredible eye autofocus, and a system like my Nikons supporting both APS-C and FF (I liked having a FF Nikon and APS-C Nikon with lens compatibility), and IBIS for prime lenses!

The other attraction is having a wider and longer Superzoom...24-240mm rather than my Fuji 27-200 (18-135). Normally, I carry three Fuji lenses around: the 18-135, the 10-24mm, and a Rokinon 8.5mm fisheye. If I want something longer, I have to add the 55-200.

I do like the Fuji system though...and the lenses that I have are great. But the Sony still tempts me. Especially getting an A7II for $999 with the 24-70 f/4 lens.

After the second professional sensor cleaning these are the symptoms:

1. a purplish top and yellowish bottom film appears upon pressing the shutter on either viewfinder or live view. This is the happy case when it still takes pictures, even good to very good ones depending on my setting
2. upon pressing the shutter it freezes and later on might or might not take the picture. I tried to replace the battery...you name it, I tried all. I give it a rest and hope for the purplish hue
3. somehow the delayed mode or self timer got messed up
4. cannot use a lot of the functions

Nevertheless, I managed with immense patience and luck to take around 1000 pics during my travel. LUCK.

I do not feel like going to repair it. Christmas approaching...I might look for another body with interchangeable lens capability.
Am looking at FUJIFILM XT30

Any thoughts on all of the above?
Thank you very much for the trouble of reading

I loved my X-T30, it was short lived at about 3 months old when it broke, but that was my fault as it fell off my tripod at Bass Harbor light because I didn't quite get the lips of the adapter under the ridges of an Arca Swiss Ballhead.

The camera fell, but still worked until the next day. The lens that fell with it (the 18-135) seemed ok. But it started making a noise and having problems when changing focal distances...so both went into Fuji, and the camera was quoted at about $550 repair bill and the lens at about 650. So I think I'm not going to fix them.

Interestingly, the X-T20 I had with me as a backup, DIED the day afterward. Well didn'd die exactly--it suddenly showed the image on the back LCD upside down and in shades of Purple and Yellow. On the viewfinder as well. So that's dead too. Now I just have my old X-T1.

I might rebuy the X-T30, since I thought it was great. Limitations to me mainly were the lack of tilt in portrait mode on the LCD, and the pain in the ass SD card location in the battery compartment. But given that it has the same sensor as the X-T3 at $600 less, I can live with that. Also, one other thing about Fuji lenses I don't like...they all have different size front threads.

Tempting me instead are the FF Sony A7ii for $999 with a lens (but then I need all new lenses), and the Nikon mirrorless--where I'll need new lenses but all my old Nikon lenses will work as well (though they will be big and heavy).

There is an off-brand 12mm f/2.0 on B&H for around $300.

I think that will be the wide angle I will choose when I can afford it.

The fuji wide angle zoom looks great but a lot more expensive.

Fujifilm XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS ?

Heading home today after 10 days away with no more gear than my X100S + a couple spare batteries. Mainly landscapes and street. Loved every minute of it. Sure I missed a few shots due to the limitations of the fixed lens, but literally only a few. And I'll crop some in PP because I couldn't get quite as close as I'd have liked. But I'm coming home with far more images than I'd have captured with my heavy DSLR kit, simply because I always had the little Fuji with me. Let the editing begin...

Looking forward to seeing your images with the fisheye, Neil.

06/13/2015 09:51:34 PM · #22
I just ordered a fisheye on Friday.

Originally, I was going to use my Nikon 10.5mm (great lens) with a Metabones adapter. I figured the $139 was cheaper than buying a new fisheye, and the Nikon is a fantastic lens.

However, I felt that the weight of the adapter, plus the Nikon 10.5, was too much compared to a small fisheye lens in my bag. (At least based on the Bower fisheye I bought for the Panny G5). So I ordered the Rokinon 8mm F2.8 UMC Fisheye II (Black) Lens for Fuji X Mount Digital Cameras.

The Bower is a fantastic lens, and Bower/Samyang/Rokinon are basically the same lenses..though my Bower lens for M43 is a slightly different model and may in fact be smaller (one of the things I liked about it).

It comes on Monday so we'll see!

I love fisheyes:

I was out looking for Road Sign and Graveyard challenge photos. Did some general landscape, too.

I guess I'm thinking my ideal may be to lose the 5D and get an XT-1 instead while keeping the X100T.

Today, I got up early for a local solo road trip for the sole purpose of taking photos of things that caught my attention. I packed my X100T and my 5D Mk II and the 24-105 zoom determined to play with both of them. Four hours later, I'm back. The Canon never left the bag. The X100T is just too much fun to put away.

I've set the preferences to record RAW + Normal JPG (set for Monochrome + Red filter simulation). I played with in camera double exposure, used macro mode and took bracketed HDR shots to stitch into a panorama. As usual the image quality is awesome. That's all I'm gonna say for now, cuz, I'm about to do some serious PP. I'll put up a gallery later to share.

Wow... what a cool camera. Had it since November and like it better every time I use it.

I am still tempted by that little beauty. But my XT1 is close with the 23mm lens on it. (Just bigger, but still okay for purse size).
