Germany seemed the best team for the whole of the tournament, I agree. Today's match could have gone either way quite easily though. Argentina couldn't do much, but did receive a number of lucky bounces that with a bit better touch would have had them celebrating tonight. Messi orchestrated a number of pretty smooth give and gos, but his disconnected teammates didn't receive the instructions to hit him back in stride, or to even try to hit him at all. They bumbled passes all match long and lacked creativity when on the ball. Germany dominated possession but honestly didn't really threaten as much as they should have.

Very glad it didn't go to penalties though, and the winner was a great goal on top of that. Interesting tournament. Much more parity than we're used to seeing, I think.

The best team of the World Cup won, no doubt.

Been some hard hits. Might come to a shoot out. Then we'll see who's uninjured and who's seeing more than one goalie...

Germany is a better team but is not playing a great match.

Penalties or a traditional last minute goal of the Germans? I guess we know it about an half hour. Hope it's interesting...

If it wasn't our team that was playing, I would have gone to bed... :)

Let's hope they both play colorful! Except for a few million dollars and the honor there's nothing to win or loose.

I would have enjoyed Netherlands/Germany more than Argentina/Germany.

The question on Sunday will be whether overall quality wins or ephemeral flashes of absolute genius? The latter can easily be enough to get the job done and Messi still has it, but the smart money is on der Mannschaft.

Very disappointing.

Compared to the game Brazil gave Germany, this was a beautifully played game.

Granted the soggy field and slick ball made for some sloppy handling and made those volley shots near the net look bad, but tactically both sides performed well and were not lured out of their games. The ref called a good game and kept play in hand, the Netherlands locked down Messi by tight checking and dared the rest of the team to beat them and Vlarr was spectacular, while Argentina never let Robben or van Pursie turn into the box on their runs.

I thought it was a great game, in the same way that a baseball game that goes scoreless into extra innings can be fun, if it is filled with great play in the field and amazing pitching and long counts. A 12 to 13 slugfest can be fun, but offense is not the only thing worth watching, seeing a good offense held in check by a great defense is even better.

Compared to the drama of last night that was a boring match to watch, especially at this stage of the competition. Once it got to the 70th minute at 0-0 the players were biding their time until penalties.

And for anyone saying 'penalties are a terrible way to decide it' well, the teams only have themselves to blame. They had 2 hours to put together an attacking move and score. Instead they subjected us to 2 hours of boredom (apart from the glimmer of Dutch hope around the 89th minute)

Very disappointing.

The goalie switch against Costa Rica now looks like the best coaching call of the cup.

Argentina played a great tactical game and the Netherlands defense was beautiful. It is a shame one team had to lose.
