There is more out there then just Canon & Nikon, Olympus E-300 should be something you may want to look into.

Whatchu mean adjusted teh dipoter and now it's oh so pretty? Need info: diopter, does it affect autofocus? is that also on the D70? ACK! Don't want to be missing a big piee of the puzzle if I don't have to.
By the way, a thread at www.nikonians.com mentioned a few months ago in the D70 forum that a somwhat accomplished National Geo photog carries 2 Nikon D70's in his 4 camera (lean) travel pack. Something to consider in the scheme of things I suppose. Have to say tho I loved the dual prism focus indicator of my Dad's old Canon AE1.

Like the man said: to get a better camera. I upgraded 'cause I needed more features. The 300D isn't for everyone, yes of course it depends on what you want/need it for. I would like to have mine again as a back-up, though. |

they're probably oversharp. I had the same camera, showed every pore and hair on a person's face...not so nice.
P.S. the 10D isn't being manufactured anymore.. |

The reason no one mentions this camera is because it is impossible to read and pronounce.

| If the sharpness is an issue, and the problem isn't with the lens, why don't you just increase the sharpness settings in the camera, or adjust it in Photoshop? |

Some of the high end cameras are made to produce images for image editing software. As you move closer to the prosumer cameras, the "out-of-the-camera" image is sharper. Most point-and-shoot cameras sharpen the image "in-camera". I recently read this in an article. It showed how the cameras mentioned above (or below, depending on how you sort your posts) have varying degrees of sharpness out-of-the-camera. I will try to find that article and post it here.

| I would say that the soft pictures you saw were setup that way. I shoot the D100 and I get beautiful clear sharp pictures from it. I would say that it is the best dig camera I have ever owned |

Rumor has it that Nikon is going to make an announcement this week on some new cameras in their lineup. You may want to wait a week or so before purchasing. Granted, whatever they announce won't be available for a few months, but it may provide you with some more choices to make it even more confusing.

And once you're ready, be sure to check //www.fredmiranda.com/forum for deals. I just saw a 300d kit for $700 with less than 250 shots on it.

I think the biggest difference in the nikon - canon war is personal preference. Go to the camera shop and pick one up. Take a few photos; mess with buttons; get a feel for them.
That's why I chose the camera I did. It's built like a tank, but most people don't care for the weight that comes with that.

I think is all about what you really want to do with the camera,I own the D-100 and I just love it no matter how many cameras get better rates Than mine.
I think it counts a lot who is behind of the camera and what you want to achive.

Actually, they do carry the Rebel (locally and online) and alot of the high end prosumer cameras. They're just usually a model behind. Anyway, FutureShop was just a reference to show that some shops offer more than 14 days for return.

No-one can tell you which is the best camera for you, they can only advise as to their personal preference. Go to a good photographic shop and handle each of the models in your price range.
Read reviews and see if they match what you want, if you don't know what you want, then you need to learn more before making that move up to DSLR. It is an important decision and an expensive one which you want to get right first time, it's no good saying in two months time that you should have bought a different model.
I have owned Olympus, Pentax and Canon SLRs in the past, each has a different feel and produces different results. Much is also dependant on the choice of lenses.
I am going to get a DSLR in the next few months, however, I am still not sure which to get. There is no rush, I intend checking out all models, whether Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sigma or Canon. Once I have tried the models, read the reviews and seen the results will I make a choice.
I know where my heart lies, with Canon! But I can't just throw a thousand pounds at a camera, so I will make damn sure that I buy what does the best job for me. And that is the whole point...it is what is best, most suited, to you! |

I was asking the same question a few months ago except mine also included the Pentax *ist. Then I saw this photo that changed my whole perspective. I thought to myself, "Could this many pros be wrong?"
Needless to say, I just bought a Canon 300d on eBay for $750 with the kit lens. I also learned that it's a lot easier to come by used Canon glass than Nikon.
My dos centavos...
