I'm not sure where the line is, but I'd say technically 1:1 or more. Full format is 36 mm x 24 mm, thus the subject should measure 24 mm long in the orientation of the shortest side (this is the maximum and I'd say the best guess). So true macro (1:1 here) can be achieved with a non-macro lens and simply cropping because 800 px isn't all that much. So the best one can do to DNMC based on subject size is to guesstimate the real-life size of the subject. Going by this, I would say the only DNMC on the first page is the spoons. I myself see this as a macro shot. After this one, then 19th is also probably not true 1:1 or more. So only 2 in the top 20, and I myself still see these as macro. Not bad.

Correct... and I was clarifying to rooum that *I* was not whining as he thought (when he thought that I was complaining after the rollover).

Thoughtful of me, eh?

Got ya now Kevin. I thought your comment was posted after rollover and was a direct comment on the top ten. Makes sense now.

I'm glad the voters didn't agree with you! Always a good idea to keep your mind and eyes open when voting! :)

Even a better idea to pay attention to the challenge theme...

Ok. Everyone always says to hold off on these discussions until after the challenge is over in order not to influence people in their voting. Fair enough. But now it IS after the challenge. I've seen a few comments to the effect of 'at least this is a macro' or some such type comments, which indicate that some people decided that some of the images were not 'proper' macros and were, as such, dnmc.

Now, I'm not being snarky or clever or a pain in the ass by asking; I really think that a discussion such as this one needs to be had (again) for the edification / education / enlightenment of the dpc collective.

What did and did not meet the 'macro' part of the challenge for you? Also, what did and did not meet the 'indoor' part of the challenge for you? Discuss.

I'm a bit confused and curious myself as to what Kevin is on about.

For reference, here is his own entry

I'm at a loss as to how he thinks these bullets are indoor and macro when the majority of the top ten images are not. Beats me.

I never said they were not macro... I was PREDICTING based on the previous iterations of the theme. I have not looked since to see if they were or were not. That challenge is over and whining about it won't change anything. :)

As for mine there is nothing that says OUTDOORS about them and they were shot 1:1 so they are a macro.

Look again. There was a tie for the blue ribbon, so there are two blue ribbons and one yellow ribbon. I know it is strange but that it is the way they handle it when a ribbon has a tie.

But to be fair, according to my experience it is usually followed by a familiar rise towards the end of the voting.

Well, the hoped-for rise didn't happen. End result:

I was hoping for a bit of an higher score, but with the awesome comments the score can be whatever it wants. As long as one person sees what I see and appreciates it. It's all wroth it :)
