well, i can say that since the website split the challenges up into open and member challenges ... there has never been a score of 8 in an open challenge.
Other than that ... I dunno :)

I think a Church enthusiast and a surfer would very different requirements from their Travel Guide. This just has to be wide open to interpretation.
Some backpackers activley seek gritty realism from their guides - package tourers go for sand, blue skies and sea - Saga Louts go for architecture, tranquility and fine dining - and the 18-30 crowd go for clubs, drink and sex...

Same here! I am still at 5.72x, but I hate that it dropped from 5.95x and no reasons given. 11 comments, people seem to like it. But what's the deal?

I was referring to this particular challenge of travel guides. When the challenge definition covers every possible scenerio: landscapes, buildings, people, animals or detail studies, every photo meets the challenge.
In all challenges, of course, the highest consideration should be the topic of the challenge.
OOoooops. Sorry Backlighting people....How did we get sidetracked on travel guides?

I tend to think of anything that is used in a travel guide as being something that is there because of it's desirability and it's power to cause a person to say, "Hey, yah, I'd love to visit that!" But then, that's just *my* opinion :)

I don't think it's *wrong*.. it's your particular take on it. I think I scored shots that made me say, "Yah, I'd love to visit and see that" higher than shots that didn't.. and if it was a photograph of a single, small feature that I particularily liked, and was presented in a way that made me want to visit, then it got a higher mark from me.

Well, I was quite excited by the first results too... After 12 votes I was at 7.600 yet now I am at 5.2500 after 150 votes :( That is strange, because few more of my photos from the same serie are among the best on the other resources... I wonder, did the level of DPChallenge fall dramatically over three months that I did not participate or there is something wrong with me and other audiences? As much as I can not judge myself I used to give 10-s gladly when voting, but in the "Backlighting" contest I could find very few respectable entries :(((
