For some reason the file size is still not exact match but close enough (<10 kB difference).

That's always the case; 87% is a tad too big, 86% is a tad undersized... Since it doesn't seem to offer anything but whole percentages...

The SOLUTION? Use "save for web" and specify the desired file size. Easy Peasy.

I have just recently upgraded to CS6 but also switched from PC to Mac. For whatever reason now when I try to save my downsized TIFF photos for challenges as jpeg the predicted number for file size shown at the time of saving is strongly different (~50kB smaller) than the actual size of the saved file. I have to do some guessing game with 2-3 saving tries until I get it just below the 300kB limit.

Any idea for the cause/solution? I would greatly appreciate it!
