I agree and sometimes even suggest it when I see what I consider to be a good challenge suggestion evolving into a great one. Sometimes the op does edit the title and/or description to reflect the suggestions s/he agrees with. More often, it seems that challenge suggestions are made the way coins might be dropped into a fountain and the op never comes back to read and participate in the ensuing discussion OR, if s/he does, expects Langdon to read and sort through all the chatter and find and post the "gem"

I guess this "guitarreada" isn't any clearer ;)

podria chamuyar mas no en php o java,
pero prefiero patinarme
unas rúas deconocidas.
con los dátiles prestos
en el shutter de la cámara,
aunque suene a guiya
pues las imágenes se me rajan.

You let it into the 'special' field again didn't you?

You don't mean the one with the ..."special" mushrooms. :O)

ROFL... I read that before you changed it. You weren't terribly off base, but it's better to not antagonize.

LOL!

Hey I was thinking the same thing, it's not all about the BIG SPLASH, a water drop is a water drop, I for one am not a water drop in the basin type shot, I'm more for the nature side!

Don't forget our super-coder, Epsi. :)

Yes forgot to include Epsi :( sorry about about that!!

It's ok, he's quiet, and gets things done... Unlike MAK and myself. ;)

I guess I just don't get the point of all the bitching & whining. The site is cheap to belong to, you get gallery space if you're a member, and some other spiffs like selected challenges, not to mention other things I can't think of right now.

You have access to a really well rounded community that's very happy to help and share, you get new topics to shoot for every couple of days, and truly the only limitations are your own ability to shoot, edit, and present a jewel within the size and rule parameters that make the challenges.

WTF???

Why on earth would you expect every challenge to be new and exciting? You may think that abandoned buildings are the coolest thing on earth.....others couldn't care less. That's the thing.......the bellyachers are truly just demonstrating their own selfishness. Are there other things we'd like? Sure, but don't you get tired of wasting all the energy griping instead of shooting?

Why do the topics have to be everything for everybody?

NEVER happen!

I know that part of the reason that I am the photographer I am today, not that I'm all that good, is that I *have* taken a chance and shot for topics that are outside of what I like and know best.

Would it be nice to have more size? You bet! But it's a whole lot more difficult to make a truly WOW shot at this size. I've found that by working within these parameters that when I shoot something and go really big for a friend, client, or show, the resultant images are much better because of having learned how to work within the parameters here.

So......do what you want, grumble and be negative if that works for you, but why not utilize the restrictions to make yourself a better photographer. Hate water drops? Fine! Show us all that you can transcend your hate, teach us all a lesson, and take the blue.

Don't like Expert editing? Shoot something so fabulous that it doesn't need the extra help......or take that PS course at the community college and quit squawking that you don't have the skills.

Really and truly......if you're not utilizing what's offered by this site in the way of knowledge, help, pitting yourself against your own weaknesses, then you're missing what this place really has to offer.

I'd just like to point out that water drop photos are damned hard.

I think you all are just scared. Challenge yourself, try something you don't normally shoot.

I was all in support of Water Drops, and still am. So :P

Voting on challenge topics would defeat the purpose in my opinion. The element of surprise makes shooting for a challenge part of the challenge.

I've considered something like that, but that allows too much time for people to prepare for an upcoming challenge.

Personally I think it's more of a problem that Langdon has been selecting from the more recent (like that week's) suggestions -- older suggestions would be more of a surprise, not something people have just been discussing in the forums, and possibly seem more inspiring. Only then we'd hear complaints about how people are posting suggestions and they "never" get used ...

I don't know what the ideal lag time from suggestion to posting would be, but it should probably be at least two weeks.

I agree that especially having two food related challenges in a row seems a little flawed. But I recall most if not all of the posters in this thread being extremely excited a week or so ago about the Cutout challenge.... So the challenges wax and wane "good" and "bad"... Just gotta roll with it.

As to the process of selecting the challenges... Has it ever been suggested or discussed that the suggestions submitted be voted on by we the participants, with the top two or three vote getters at each rollover would be the ones Langdon selects from? Then just keep everything accumulating votes until they float to the top or sink to the bottom. I'm not a coder, so not sure how difficult that would be to se up... But it would seem to be a good cooperation between we the people and management. If only paying members could vote, might also be a draw for more people to join.

Probably nothing original here, but thought I'd offer something...

That'll teach us.

Since the responses often conflict with each other, I don't see where you'd want to leave the arbitration up to Langdon.
