Real life scenario, amazingly similar to this game.

Agents race to save girl - using only a blurred roadsign from an image posted.

4th was spot on (0 meters), last one was incredibly hard.

32394...

Max score! - But, I cheated.

Nope. 1 point from Max. But you did beat me by two points. :)

I thought so too, at first, but the Google searches didn't make much sense so I had another look at the sign (at the entrance to La Fe). But your placement was way off, almost in California I think.

I found a road sign that mentioned it was in the Municipio de Viesca.

This was a hard one, only 18301 pts. Challenge me!

I got 22,360 points. I was a bit closer with A (lucky guess, and I got it in the correct state).
We both pinged B and C. I very nearly pinged D by 33km (La Fe, if you remember). But you were slightly closer with E - at least we both got the same country. ;-Þ

At least you were on a road. They started dropping me in the middle of a footpath. ...and to add insult to injury, it was raining.

Highest score so far is 28643; closest was 0.001 km, on the island of Elba. Also very close in two places in Western Australia and one in Nova Scotia. The other place was a wild guess in Finland which proved be be not so far off the mark ;-Þ.

And finally! A place I've actually been to - standing outside Lenin's Tomb in Red Square, Moscow.

To make this game a bit more of a challenge,
move either the picture to search for clues
OR
expand the map to zero in on a place.
Not both.
Now that'll test your geography skills.

Dang it. I thought I did really good until I saw some of the others posted. It's really hard when you can't read the Russian language. I managed to find a billboard with a phone number on this one.

Vologda Russia 3.2km 6217 points

I did better... Somewhere near Perth... .82km and 6410 points. I won't post any more unless I'm within 10 feet. :)

Okay, 22 feet. Stopping now... really...

Total score for this round was 23328.

This is very strange, yet probably not strange at all. Yesterday (5/21/13) my GIS instructor was showing us this game at the beginning of class. I saw the title of this thread and said, "Gee, I should go waste some time on the geoguessr game." Soup-rise, soup-rise, that's exactly what this thread is about. I'll be dingly darned.

First try: "You got 11418 points in total." Not sure if that's good or bad, but I was only 300 miles off on my third photo.

That's pretty much it. Or... "How many grams of of sample did the research facility use in that test in 2009?"

Now do that at least four times in a row and you'll have a higher score than me! :)

(Then send me the challenge me link. I'll still beat ya)

With two kids, two cats, a puppy, and a grumpy wife in the house? The only time I can relax is at work, but even here I don't get solid time to myself. There's always someone asking me for something, and work internet is really slow. But it would be a fun challenge.

That One metre was very lucky. I spawned right next to a store, and a google on it placed me right off the bat. I didn't have time to google my other locations, but did pretty well. Same continent at least. A couple of really lucky guesses.

I didn't realize you could move. That does make it quite a bit easier.

Not necessarily - I moved so far away to find a sign that when I figured out where I was, I had moved quite a ways from where I started - I assume your guess applies to your entry point.

Still though, you're better off with some way of narrowing it down. I've gotten a lot of dirt roads, rickety fences, broken down vehicles... just boring as hell landscapes, like the Dust Bowl met the apocalypse. Tough to guess with any accuracy as Canada's so big.

I was hoping to ruffle a hoser, but I guess not.

LOL - I was expecting a response, too, eh. :)

I saw it and was going to comment, but the auditors were in and were bugging me at the time, so I forgot about it. Anyway, can't get too ruffled as it's the truth. :-P

Some great scores here, especially considering that a fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps.
