Is everyone else glad like me that they ate the fruit?

God is too.

It's why he created man, to worship him. Blind worship isn't worship, it has no substance, God created man with free will placed him in a garden and said here i made all this for you, enjoy it, but dont dare eat of this tree for you will know what i know, that is right and wrong. wink, wink.

He put man in predicament God not not only wanted but purposely created and expected man to fail and then "punished" him to morality when he did. He would need to find his own food, get hurt, sick and die. He would now willfully NEED God, he would need to pray and ask for forgiveness, pray for the lord to provide for him. What worse is that Satan just encouraged man to do what God had intended, yet god punished him severely. The punishment of man was what God had intended all along. He needed man to need him, so he created a situation where that would occur.

By "disobeying" man gained knowledge and morality. He gained the ability to live. I for one (if any of this is true) glad he did. The man that God created in the garden was not man. He had no mind, no values, he was amoral.

Yes, that's the figurative part. Basically, the Lord said "Don't go there, or there will be consequences!" Whether it was an actual "fruit" that was involved is pretty much irrelevant, IMO, and impossible to determine, since we're dealing with thousands of years of translation and transliteration between the birth of the Bible and now, never mind the time elapsed between the actual Edenic period and the writing of the Bible.

Doesn't read as figurative at all. He said don't eat of that tree. They ate of that tree.

But oh well... I'll be glad when this week is over and hopefully there won't be a ton of DNMC entries.

So, an accurate depiction of an Adam & Eve scenario could include nudity.

Pre-apple, it HAS to. Post-apple, you have more leeway :-)

What "apple" do you speak of?

It's a figure of speech. I'm aware the apple wasn't native to that part of the world. My money's on the pomegranate, frankly, but nobody'd have a clue hpow witty I was being if I said that. Plus, arguably, the whole fruit thing is figurative anyway...

And yes, arguably.

Though I suspect the usual folks would vote that a 1.

We were in the low 50's today; too warm to shiver. I did feel an incipient snicker but I damped it down.

I found a raison d'être, or at least a reason to enter a photograph, thanks to Bear_Music's suggestion of looking to Genesis. Oh, my image won't score well, but it has a biblical meaning to me.

I managed to go all Genesis myself this afternoon, so I'm in :-) We'll have a little, private Biblical shootout, eh Richard? Mine would pass muster in advanced editing easily, as I imagine would yours as well :-)

Of course. You're on! I actually felt shivers run down my spine as I captured the image. But, it might have been too much, or too little, coffee. ;-)

Could it be because of this: "No, I am one of those Bible-based, science supported "Earth is about 6000-10000 years old" guys."

Just asking.

May I commend Genesis to your attention? ;-)

...isn't that like a rock band. :O)

The Creation account has been the same since Moses wrote it down.

You read Aramaic, eh? Actually, since there is no record of asnything in Moses' own handwriting, you statement is necessarily false, even if multiple, imperfect translations hadn't intervened.

My shaving cream beard kept defoaming. Ah. Memories. I remember wearing such beards for bible character costume parties in elementary school. :)
