Welcome aboard!

Let me commend to you that if you're looking to learn, check out the tutorials, linked under "Learn" in the right side of the toolbar at the top of the page.

Also, know that scores here are something like this:
5: fine by some people, loved by a few, disliked by a few
6: solid score, pleased more people than not
6.5: rockin' score - be very happy you really pleased the voters, as many never get a 6.5
7.0: more often than not, one of the top 3 and will earn a ribbon

DPC is a wonderful place, and people will fall all over themselves to provide honest, helpful critiques (especially if you ask in a thread), but you most likely won't be getting 8s and 9s as average scores like often appear on other photo sites.

LOL, yep, that's what it is! Most folks don't figure that out so fast :-)

Don't people check the target URL before clicking on a link? That's how most if the ID theft phishing attempts work ...

Someday someone will be killed over that. Won't be so funny then. ...well, I guess it still will be.

Only if the victim is this member.

Leadville is also in peril because the abandoned mine shafts located above the town have filled with water, creating the potential for catastrophic flooding and landslides.

Leadville is an absolutely beautiful little place. It hS suffered it's own little depression since the closing of the mines though, sadly.

When I was in H.S we played football at Leadville and even being from Colorado ourselves we felt the sting in our lungs from the altitude. Leadville's football field is the highest Football field(american football that is, not sure about soccer) in the world. Also, my H.S football team was pretty tough, we didn't always win, but we almost never got out-hit. I would say we were out-hit exactly twice in my four years, the two times we played Leadville. We beat them both but they bruised us for our efforts. Tough little dudes from the mountains who hit like Rams.

Welcome Bob- I am also living in Colorful Colorado. West Denver Metro near the foothills. I've been around here about 2 and 1/2 years and have learned bunches. Welcome and just have fun, the competition is stiff, but it's all about learning and having fun.

Welcome -- note that we have a whole forum section on stock photography ...

As mentioned, check the rules carefully the first few times you enter as they can be a bit confusing and arbitrary, and don't be afraid to ask questions and make comments.

Born and raised. ;)

There and NW NM. :)

Where at in the West Slope?

Born in Durango, lived in a list of places in the area, with the lion's share of my time in Farmington NM.

Durango is awesome. I'm a Rifle lifer, but we travel all over the state, especially the western part. Our favorite place to camp and hangout is Ouray.

Howdy, jump in, have a good time, maybe, like me, you will learn some useful things along the way.
Commenting on photos by other people can help you a lot to learn what it is that you like in photos. A lot of the people here will respond by commenting on your photos as well. Side challenges are great for that, and for meeting the DPC people.

Great advice, and get in there and vote. Go straight through the images presented rather than cherry picking from the thumbnails. Spend some time with each image to analyze what works, what doesn't, and how well it fits the challenge. Your own photography will improve as you do this. Your scores may or may not improve, that will depend on how mainstream your artistic style is, but your techniques will definitely benefit.

Oh, and welcome, Bob.

chazoe, I didn't realize you were a West Sloper... awesome! There is also a Southern Colorado contingency. You know, that magical land south of Colorado Springs and north of New Mexico... :)

Welcome again, Bob!! Have fun here!!!

I guess there are more Coloradans here than I realized.

I spend most of my time on the Front Range but spend every other weekend, sometimes more, on the western slope (Steamboat area, specifically).

I never knew where in Colorado you actually were, chazoe. There's another member who is sometimes active who is in the Greeley area, as well... dacrazyrn

Apparently we all like D3/700's, oddly enough...

And not sure why you always forget about me being in Colorado, since lots of my photos are pretty... Colorado-y :)

I'm in Rifle. Spend a ton of my weekends and most of hunting season in the flat top/meadow lake area, if you know where that is.

My shots aren't that Colorado-y, I'm still working on my landscape ability.
