Hehehe, Annida is my best friend in the whole world, and now she has my old camera, which is why she got to submit this week :). She showed me what the comment was, and I emailed the person who left it >:|.

Annida - you're going to take lots of great, creative photos. We can all tell that :). Everyone takes their first submission very seriously, even I posted a thread asking why I got so many "ewww" comments on mine. But you'll have a lot more fun with the challenges from now on :).

MY EYES!! THEY'RE BURNING!!! MAKE IT STOP, DEAR LORD!!

Just when my psychiatrist silenced the voices in my head from screaming with pain from the first time I saw this photo, you repost it.

Thanks. Now where are those Vicadins?

Maybe Annida's suggestion in her first post would be a good idea... We now have a checkbox for "This was helpful"... Maybe a check box for "This was offensive" might be a good idea...

Ummm, on second thought, the folks that leave offensive comments might enjoy the attention. I guess it's best to just ignore them.

Welcome aboard Annida! Great bio photo!

This is a great site and I have learned tons here. Don't let one bad apple stop you, just consider the source. You'll find that most of the bad comments come from people that never even submit photos and sometime the harsh comments are right and those are the ones you can really learn from. Don't give up!

Good Luck,
Roger

Thanks Roger! I live in Phoenix, and I looked at your photos, and they're beautiful. *sigh* hehe...

actually, I looked at the persons user page, and they have some nice photos up. *shrugs*

Actually I'm kinda on a mission now. I want to get one worse than that. So I'm waiting for the perfect opportunity to do something tastefully distasteful. My drug one (Four Challenge) didn't get anyone's panties in a bundle as I expected. But I guess I'm not that good at offending some people. I'm working at it.

Holy Moly! That was horrible. Wow.

Annida, Keep your head up. don't let it get you down. It happened to me just a few weeks ago. here is the picture and the comment is the 13th from the bottom.
Flower Girl I wanted to take my picture out of the challenge, because I didn't want any one to see and think of her in that way. I decided against it and wanted that person to be ambarressed for thinking that way about a little girl.

Hey hey hon... don't cry.
I got a mean comment too once. I think they were trying to be funny but I was so upset! (read: I created a thread just like this one.) This person told me that it looked like I had dropped my camera and my submission was the result!
I look back now and think it was actually kinda funny, but I was enraged at the time.
So don't cry, and think happy thoughts. And don't worry, you'll get better to those professional photos in time. If you don't believe me, look at what the people on this site have taught me to do with my own photographs!

Annida, I'm sorry you had a bad experience on your first submission. Like others have said, it will get easier as it goes along. I think half the fun is trying to figure out the types of photographs that will do well here and then figuring out how your style fits in. Most of us here really do mean well. BTW I really like the photo in your bio. Welcome aboard!

That is too bad. But you should not feel so bad. Do not let other people bother you. I haven't got any "this is crap comments" but I am looking forward to maybe getting some, considering I get a whole bunch of 1's and 2 votes with no explanation. Beh. I just have fun seeing how high of a score I can get, and wonder how I keep getting scores below 5. My pictures are not that bad at least I think ;) So keep your chin up, and submit a new creation next week.
01/14/2003 07:07:24 PM · #21
Well that's bad to get that on your first submission ... true you should not cry ... :-) I guess that almost all of us can be still upset even after a lot of submission.
Try to not focus on that comment, nobody can help you until this week is over but if you check the check box you will get an 'in depth' critique.
Be brave until that or until you get some nice comment that would cheer you up
Good luck for this week

Hey Annida,

Welcome to our site. We've all been there. Those kind of comments are hard to take at first. You'll realize that most people here are trying to be helpful. Sometimes the message just comes out wrong. I'll guarantee you that you'll get some great comments too. It's a great way to learn. Next time you're ready to submit a photo, take a hard look at it and see what you'd change about it ... that has helped me from making the same mistakes over and over.

Keep your chin up and have fun, because that's what photography is all about.

I am upset, and I've been crying my eyes out over a comment I got. I know it's stupid to get upset about this, and I'm sure you've aalllll heard this before. I'm upset because this is my first attempt at taking a picture, and certainly my first entry to DPC. I know I shouldn't get so offended, and I know I should certainly not be crying about this...
but can't somebody tell me why people leave comments that have no constructive criticism?

The fact is that I knew my photo would never even come close to how good some levels of photographs some people have here, but I entered the challenge so I could learn something. I have learned some things already, but I'm not sure I could handle this every week.

Maybe you need a check box next to the "elpful comment"box which says "not helpful at all".. or something. I just want to let the person know that I found their comment unhelpful and completely useless and upsetting, and that they should put some thought in their comments. I wouldn't even have a problem if the comment was ,'This is crap..' but it was worse, in my opinion.
There, I hope I got it all out.
