Are you doing your portraits outdoors or in a studio? That might make a difference. And do you have a 50mm?

i want to try and do studio work for a year. but i'm open to doing outdoor. I have a 50 available to me for use.

i use a 10-22, 50mm and 85mm for my portraits. 50mm gets the most work. 10-22 only for full body or wide shots, the 85 I rarely use, as on a crop the FOV is very narrow, so its great for headshots but that's about it.

however, i love that lens, its insanely sharp and has beautiful bokeh. if i had a FF I'd use it all the time.

if you plan to use you new lens indoors or studio quite a bit i'd suggest the 30mm as the 85mm has no use indoors, way to long and tight.

hope this helps.

i have both, but the 30 only gets used on my 20d but still takes a great shot plus you get an even nicer fall off with the extra stop, its effectively a 50mm on a crop sensor, i love the 85 on my 5d full frame and its crisp and sharp, cant really help you as id always take the 85 as ill be staying ff but the 30 is a lovely lens also. how big is your studio? 85 is like 100 on yours got enough room to back up.

They dropped the price on the US Model $389 - Offer ends June 30th.

The 85mm would probably be better for portraits but harder for full body shots. If I were buying.. It would be the 85mm Import.

So i'm considering buying a new lense here soon, and would like some input about which one i should get. I have 3 lenses. One is an import (idk if that makes much difference though). i hear these are possibly the better portrait lenses but i would like to be able to use it in the studio and out and about.

Anyways, those are my options. at least the ones that B&H has.

Thanks!
