Certainly possible. EOS may have put it into a default "pictures" folder that is different from, but shares the same name as the one you normally use. I've got a couple of folders like that.

I did a search on my PC but could oly find the files in the one directory which is the correct one.

I'm also thinking this has to do with where DPP is putting the images, different than where you were dragging & dropping them.
Drage & drop is a time tested method, no doubt. I used to swear by it, because I had complete control of it. Once I moved to Lightroom, though, I gave it up. Lr does a great job of keeping all my stuff in an organized structure, and there is no manual intervention required. Now that the price on Lr is so low, it is a great deal, especially if you are shooting RAW.

Since it seems this "utility" is not very utilitarian anyway, why change a previously-working method now?

I found some marks around one of the contact holes on my card thought it might be the camera but on close inspection saw a bent pin in the reader and So I bought new cards and used the utility.
I have an old reader that I used for my test.I do like being able to rename and renumber when using the utiltiy. But it looks as if I will carry as before.Don't like to be beaten though!!

I use DPP, but only move files with the file manager. I don't even have the EOS utility installed. I occasionally access my wife's computer over the network to look at her pictures and have never had a problem.

Due to DPC rules I have always transferred my files manually from the card using drag and drop in windows explorer.Last week I used Canon utility to transfer files and found that none of them would show on DPP on my home network which now includes two laptops and my PC.I can only see them in DPP on my PC (which is where I transferred to).I have the latest versions of DPP 3.11.26.I did a test this morning and transferred 4 files (2 jpeg & 2 cr2)using each method of transfer. Both laptops can see the manual transfer but not the eos utility one in DPP.I cannot find any setting in EOS capture that might cause this.Anybody any idea why this should be?
Thanks
