I'm not sure what best of means, but this was the other one I thought about using that hasn't been seen before.

I waffled down to the last few hours with these, but I'm ultimately happy with how things went.

The London view is quite common and the nightscape was not perfect: you didn't fix the lens distorsion and the sky has some posterization effect, especially in the center.

You're always perfect in your shots, never in my life I could think it was yours ;)

I was lucky enough to travel a fair bit in 2011 and had a lot to choose from, but decided very early on to submit one of my favourite images from 2011. Not necessarily my best and not something I thought would score highly, but nevertheless one that I liked. A couple of others I had considered

This was a beautiful shot. I was the only one to give it a 9. I think you made the right choice!

I had a Great year last year. Turned 50 and did a lot of traveling. The comments on my entry is why I entered it. The Owl came out of nowhere right at me. Cool and scary at the same time.

I loved the processing in this image. I thought it was a great shot and prefer it over the less processed version

Pre-voting phase, friends advised I enter one, or the other, of the outtakes. That was good advice. I changed my mind and entered the aspen color image because of threats in the forums by people who claimed they were going to vote lower on any image they had seen entered before in a challenge. Since my outtakes are similar to some of my best scoring images of the year, I feared retaliation. The forum information turned out to be wrong headed. Next time, I'll take the advice of friends, rather than the blather spewed in the forums.

i think they voted against other images as a criteria rather than voting on each image individually on its own merits

Avg (all users): 4.9667

I don't have an "outtake" to share.

This is my 3rd lowest score ever and I wish it was my second lowest. My lowest scoring image is one of my favorite entries.

It seems voters were particularly harsh for this challenge. They were voting on what they expected instead of voting on the actual image.

Did consider this one though it would have required a bit of tidying up

Think I made the right decision though and very pleased with the result and all the great comments.

I don't think so. Your entry is so much better than the landscape one. Last year I submitted an architecure image and got more or less the score you got this year - well, it is still one of my favorite images :)
