I think there are a few threads somewhere about that technology.
It should be at retail stage already.

With a special mount hooked to the wireless lens, one could come up with some special point of view shots. Could you see putting the lens on on 30' pole for an over head view, while remotely controlling the shot from the camera/phone?

Of course it needs a "camera", it's just that the SENSOR becomes part of the lens, and the "camera" is connected wirelessly.

In their own write-up, they specifically refer to a universal mount, so this can be used with legacy dSLR lenses from multiple manufacturers...

in the video they refer to the sensor being in the backof the lens so unless that fitted onto the lens then the lens on to the body like a 1.4 teleconverter etc then old lens wouldnt work would they, they live streaming and buffering in hd would be immense amount of data to transmit at mo.

With all the new designs in current DSLR cameras, mirrorless design come closest to what I like. The one thing I don't like is the lack of a conventional view finder. I'm waiting on the 2-way mirror design that would allow the sensor to see though the back of the mirror and not allowing the view finder to see through the front. In theory having a fixed mirror with no actions. I know they would have to design a mirror that could achieve this without absorbing to much light but, with some cameras ISO hitting 100K, I think it's possible.

I have to say it is a nice concept. I remember a thread a year or so ago where we were discussing what we though would be the next advancement in cameras. I don't think anyone of us considered the sensor connected to the lens.

If they design their mount with a very short "register distance" (the distance from the flange to the sensor) then in theory various adapters could be mounted to the camera module that would allow the physical mounting of pretty much any SLR lens. The trick would be enabling things like aperture control or AF. We know it is possible to reverse-engineer the EOS communication protocol; the existence of 3rd-party lenses is direct evidence of this.

ETA: There is no technical reason why they could not use a short register distance; they don't need space for a mirror.

Possibly quite a bit more than that.
It is true that anybody can toss out a futuristic concept; usually these ad-hoc concepts can be easily shown to rely on technology that does not exist and will not in the near future. This concept is probably very workable. The two technology hurdles would be:
1.) The data transfer rate between the lens/sensor module and the display module
2.) Battery performance of the lens/sensor module
Other than these two items, there are no real impediments to building such a device. There may be cost issues. A FF sensor is not going to be cheap, and packing all the readout and processing into the lens/sensor module would likely be costly to implement, though technically doable.
Notice on their website that the design is "Patent Pending." This shows that the design is much more than a back-of-the-envelope concept.
