Hopefully they have some downloads left. I just got mine this afternoon.

I believe that feature is covered by the "High Dynamic Range" panel on the exposure tab.

I think that Digital Photographer was doing this as a promotion, and when the link drifted off their site into non-related sites, they lost all promotional value (hits on the download kink were correlating to hits on DP website) so they decided to fix that :-)

That stands to reason.

Huh? I don't have Issue #110 of Digital Photographer magazine. I'm in freakin' Romania.

I see that question also on the download link. I don't have access to that mag either. Anyone have the answer? It won't process without it.

Nevermind. You get a different question every time you open the link. I managed to guess the answer correctly after looking at the mag website and looking at the list of featured articles. Says its valid for first 45,000 respondents, so we'll see if I really get the license code. Still waiting on my email.

I didn't get any such question. I'm sure someone here has that issue, however. I thought you lived in Jersey? That's a heck of a commute.

In the "Exposure" panel, on the "High Dynamic Range" drop-down, are "highlight" and "shadow" sliders that seem to work like "recovery" and "fill" in the Adobe RAW converters.

Well of these, I would pick the CS5 version. The Capture One is also quite good but missing some shadow detail.

I use Aperture as my primary raw conversion software and to me (compared to this free option), Aperture wins hands down with LR a close second.

I think in the long run, it all goes down to the interface and which one you are most comfortable using.

So far, I'm not impressed, but that may be partly because I think it's pretty hard to use, and I haven't quite figured it out yet. I can't even figure out how to export a "Jpg" processed image. But I did adjustments, and did the same in LR, then output to a PDF, and compared the two outputs...and LR won that early test.

I'm having the opposite reaction, sort of. It's still hard for me to figure out, in that it uses libraries and all that hoo-hah and I can't just open a specific file in it without first putting the file in a library, which is pain in the keister, and then the export is not intuitive, BUT at least I have it set to open CS5 and dump there when I finish processing, BUT it's persisting in opening 64-bit CS5 which I don't use instead of 32-bit, which I do, and some of my plugin stuff is only on 32-bit...

But the thing of it is, it's a REALLY good RAW processor for a couple images I have tried that were giving me trouble in ACR (which is the same engine as lightroom). It seems to work very well for highly-saturated colors, especially the reds but also the blues. Why, I am not sure. Just preliminary reactions...

I like it as well. Of course, my raw conversion options are quite limited, so there is that. And I love being able to send it to PS. Currently nothing else that I use for raw does that.

See my earlier post & than DCNutter's yanko version of it for how to export. LOL!

Just for the record (and Windows users): according to the message it needs a full .NET Framework 4. Installation of that is still running, not sure if ever succeeds. Looking at the log it's still searching for a drive where it can decompress :(

Edit1: Just pulled out a rotten USB disk and wow: installation is running!

Edit2: After installing some extra security updates for .NET (it's Windows), it works!

Which is why I have a spare OS partition. That way I still have the old one working until I get everything reinstalled and moved over to the new copy.

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed? If not it might be work trying to update to see if it corrects your Windows Installer issue.

I know you can manually download the latest Windows Installer from Microsoft, but I think you may find some troubleshooting techniques in this thread. There are sections dependent on your OS etc.

How to troubleshoot problems that may occur when you install, uninstall, or upgrade a program on a Windows-based computer

Obviously a clean install is always nice, but getting all your programs installed and set up the way you want takes time. At least it does for me since I'm so methodical. I would check out that thread to see if anything can be fixed before doing that. It might be an easy fix.
