Cool -- I didn't know that.

Well, it looks like one got a DQ. Now shows I voted on 56 entries. With mine it shows there are now 57 entries. I wonder if I'm missing one.

mmmm Im a little concerned now since I had the problem with my own image not wanting to load at one point but i saw the thumbnail. I was wondering about it but thought nothing of it in that it might be just my network here. Now that I hear you saying this it could be not just my computer and could be with other images and other people as well. Nobody else has mentione dit but let's hear from others.. ?

PM me the name of your image i'll let you know if it was it, if not i'll let you know what i scored your image :)

Ps. Is that your score at this moment Wendy? 7.3? If so that beats mine by a large margin and could mean that there are at least 5 or more entries above mine.

Just for fun...check out this page. It may be helpful!! Best of luck! Free file recovery software for Mac

Up to the 100 vote mark. Pretty consistent on this one, hovering in the tiny violin zone.

Give up now, the woman is a steamroller. I've started congratulating her before the challenge begins.

I believe there are 3 out there that if they enter, forget about a ribbon. Well, in my case I can forget about a ribbon every challenge.

I vote (as if this were an election) to keep it in. If you withdraw the image it goes away, and no one can see it, ever. If you leave it in, it is no stain on your record, and at least for a few days we can all see it near the top where it ought to have been but for the caprices of the gods of the hard disks. If (when) it gets DQed just put in the post you wrote below in the notes and it can serve as a warning to those who come after, and the community will be able to see the work, which must be quite nice to earn that score.

That sucks. My approach is to have a few CF cards and rotate them, using the oldest ones first. This way I usually still have the original memory card of the session available until the challenge is over.

Im really sorry to hear about what happened. im inclined to think that you will be ending up in the top 5 and even ribbon with a score like that. I dont think you should wish for your score to drop. let it finish where it must and if you do get into the top 5.... You yourself will know the truth and thats what's important. Knowing that you do have a ribbon (whatever) regardless the shot being DQed or not.

Further i do hope somebody knows of free software but if not.. It's one of those lessons learnt in life. Hard to swallow

Best of luck

Fred
I feel your pain. I was probably going to have a top spot finish in the Chips challenge, but I used a borrowed camera b/c mine was being repaired, and didn't check the year of the date...I could kick myself really hard, but I learned my lesson and always check now.

Couldn't you withdraw image so as not to get a DQ?

Sorry,

This might sound totally weird but I hope my score drops so I don't end up in the top 5.
Why? Well here's why.

My letter to site council:
Dear site council,
I have lost the original ORF (RAW) file of my Diners and Dives challenge entry. I was updating my AppleMac which runs Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.6 to the later version which is Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to ready it for the Mac OSX Lion update which is expected soon. When the update was finished I discovered that my Photo editor LightZone was not responding anymore. After some enquiries on the LightZone forum it became apparent that the Java update which I did at the same time as the Mac OSX update was causing this problem with LightZone. I decided to revert back to the first version of Mac OSX Leopard by doing a re-install with the Mac OSX Leopard install disc. This would also revert Java back to the install disc version and the problem with LightZone would be solved. After that I was going to re-update to Mac OSX Snow Leopard version 10.6.6 which was stable on my computer and with which my LightZone editor functioned without problems. However something went horribly wrong d uring this re-install process. Instead of choosing for Archive and Install I chose for a clean install and discovered afterwards that all my RAW image files which had been stored on my desktop had disappeared. Gone. Including many documents which I had not backed up. Included in the lost photo\'s is the original ORF(RAW) file of my challenge in the \"Diners and Dives\" challenge. Looking at my current score I am now worried that it will finish in the top 5 thus requiring verification. All I do have left is the edited and converted TIFF file at full resolution which was backed up on a CD rom with all my other edited TIFF files. I normally also back up my selected RAW files on CD ROM but only do so once in a while normally and had not backed them up yet. As far as computers go I am far from an expert and should not have attempted this by myself I now realize. So what happens now? Must I hold thumbs that my entry falls out of the top 5 or if it does inadvertently end up in the top 5 will it suffice this time if I send the edited and converted Tiff file as proof? The exif data is all intact on the Tiff file still showing that it was shot with my Olympus E1 and edited in LightZone and including the date and time of the photo being taken.

The reply of course was what I expected namely no, not possible. Rules are rules. I'm OK with that and understand but it would be a pity to have it DQ'd nevertheless.
They did suggest I look for a data recovery program and I did and found quite a few. They all advertise FREE download and the wording for some makes you think the demo is free. No go Joe, those I tried take an hour or two to do the scan and then show the results with the message that you have to purchase the program in order to be able to retrieve the lost files. I wish the wording of those program blurbs mentioned that before I started a 1 to 2 hour scan of my hard drive. Unfortunately I am not prepared to pay $49 to $99 just to retrieve 1 image that I might need for verification. Unless someone here knows of a free program for retrieving ORF files. I couldn't find one. If the worst scenario happens and I end up in the top 5 I will just have to accept a DQ then.

Ps.Oh yes...my current score: Hope it drops some more.

The people who stay up and vote on the night of rollover likely suffer from a sort of late night delirium that causes good feelings, appreciation for photography and exceptionally high votes.
