Okay okay okay. You single handedly just made my decision :]. Thank you so much for your help. I am going to order that lens right now. I mean if i really don't like the lens and it isn't wide enough i can return it and get the 10-20 but i'm positive ill be happy with either one. Thank you again. You are all very helpful.

Hey Brent. Personally, if I could only have one of the two lenses I'd pick the 17-70, simply because it's more flexible. Have a look at the 17-70 info page on this site and you'll see a wide variety of shots featured, including landscapes, night shots, portraiture and close focus shots. It really is a very flexible lens. It's also quite bit faster than the 10-20 (F2.8-4), which provides more flexiblity in low light and greater control over the DOF in your shots and you have the option of a stabilized version too. And it's still heaps wider than the 50mm you're currently using. Sure, you're not going to get the expansive FOV that the 10-20 provides, but 17mm is still plenty wide enough for a great many applications. So, much as I like the 10-20 I think it's just a bit too limiting for an every day lens whereas the 17-70 is a better 'all rounder'. Just my opinions of course, but I hope I've helped a little.

Well my main interest is night photography which i love to do. But this lens will be what i use every day because i only have a 50mm prime lens which isn't very useful for me. I am just afraid if i get the 10-20 or 12-24 I wont have any real zooming capabilities and if i get the 17-70 it wont be wide enough for my liking to shoot night shots.

I have both lenses and would be happy to offer some input. However, they are 2 very different lenses. So, as RamblinR said - what are you planning on shooting?

I have the Tokina 12-24 and it's my favorite lens. Can't tell you anything about the rest of them.

What do you plan on shooting?
Answer to this question should be the key to which lens you purchase.

Okay so i have finally narrowed it down to two lenses from the sigma 10-20mm, tokina 12-24, sigma 17-70, Canon ef-s 18-135, sigma 18-200, sigma 18-250, and tamron 18-270. I narrowed it down to sigma 10-20 or sigma 17-70 and i cannot decide on one. Does anyone have any suggestions or use with both lenses and help on deciding?
