"this took awhile to start to appreciate the interesting tones. you have definitely captured the oddness of this animal with a fairly odd photo. i would have liked to see it composed without the drain and that thing under the beard, but maybe you included them to add to the oddness-9"

Apparently my photography was deep back then! :)

I quite like that shot. Very dark though.

My first comment for a challenge was for:

From aliqui "That's right, hold on to your hat and run, kid!

Cute photo. There's a bit of an awkward composition, but it works very well here. You're immediately drawn to the cuteness, but then wonder, "What's the little tyke looking at?" Your eyes travel across the full length of the photo and then, surprise, "...holy crap, that's huge!" "

This is still one of my favorite comments and encouraged me to enter more challenges - Thanks!

You're welcome, Phil! It's still one of my favorite images on the site. There's just something about it...

It turns out my first comment received was from Melethia - "What a bizarre flower!"

Comment by Wes:
"the grid background distracts me a bit, I like the pencil shaving a lot though. And the metalic pencil sharpener goes well with it."

I'd forgotten just how many technically helpful comments we used to get in those days - Something that I'm inclined not to do any more - there's too many people aiming for the brown that make me feel my time and comments would be wasted.

I joined DPC after following a link in Henry Roxas' flickr profile - he still occasionally posts photos there, but sadly hasn't been active on DPC for a long time.

Really nice processing on this. The sky probably didn't need to be so deeply saturated, but I like the contrast between the dusk lighting on the car and the bright sky. I also like the variety of colors in the truck.

Yo_Spiff checked in later with this to say:
Love these old rusty crusties, another for my faves.

A fan of Grog? When you posted that I was expecting to see just couple of comments on a lonely image, not 64.

That was in the Hidden Gem -- 1,000th Challenge! Everyone was going all out to put in comments on all the pictures. It made for a great first time experience. I appreciated every one of them.

"Made me smile - and could have worked for the coffee challenge too! Great concept!"

image was absolutely killed in that challenge by the troll voters, but I got some nice comments.

as for my own first comment:
"One of my favorites of the challenge" on an image that finished 3rd from last. If that doesn't define my DPC style, nothing does :P

Oy. That's even more embarrassing than the image itself.

That's homeroasted coffee, my dear. And I'd be happy to. You bring the pizzelles. Extra anise please.

Wow, that was a bit harsh -- and from someone that never submitted to a challenge. However, I would have to say you have learned to edit quite well.

My very first comment came from Photologist:

"I just wish the photo would have been larger. Thte max size can have a side up to 640px in length. This photo, being so small, it's hard to inspect the detail. A larger photo would have earned at least another point."

Well, it was all downhill from there...;-P
