Scoring much better than I feel it deserves. It's not a particularly interesting photo which is reflected in the number of comments. I did not go out and shoot for this challenge but grabbed a shot that I knew fitted the theme as the opportunity presented itself. I’m looking forward to seeing what the majority of voters preferred come rollover. Even though mine is scoring higher, with 10 comments timfythetoo I would consider your image to be much more successful. Well done.

5.46 with 7 comments and a fav by one of my favorite photographers! Not too shabby!

Was hoping to maybe score a posthumous ribbon but I think he guessed my image as mine and will thus leave me nothing (at least that is the excuse I will grasp onto). So I walk away with just a mediocre score. Great comments though. One baghead left an awesome one. Looking forward to seeing who he/she is.

I was averaging somewhere around 6 and I got disqualified. I feel like a real jackass for submitting something before fully understanding the rules. I apologize to everyone who wasted their time voting on my image and especially to everyone who submitted work in the challenge.

I love how comments, can make scores seem unimportant. Thank you all!

Wow, I'd love to have 5 comments...a few others seem to have that number but I think that the average number is just 1. Wish it would be more:-(

You have commented on 15 images (15%) in this challenge

My entry is still treading water just a tad above 6 and STILL only one comment - my guess is that many don't wish to venture into Sadness when much more attractive challenges such as Visual Puns are out there. :-( :-(

At 98 votes mine is sitting at 5.56xx. I have a single comment from Don and I'm glad you liked it.

100 vote check in.
I still feel like there are a bunch of people who must not be posting their scores and are well above 6.
Cause otherwise, in comparison to what most people are posting in here, my score is really high.
And I doubt that.

After writing so many comments I will admit that they became more and more brief as I went along. I will try to go back and add to those that got short changed. There is nothing personal in my comments and I'm merely pointing out why it didn't resonate with ME. By no means does that mean it won't with others however, if my comment matches others received it might be an indicator. I would like the same in return rather than a "1" (IMO based on some bias or jealousy) so that I might improve with time. My vote was based on how the photo (alone, w/o title) impacted me in provoking sadness. I did not give anything below a 5 and base that on the fact that the photographer took the time to at least enter the challenge. I know it's a ten point system but it seems voting a 1, 2, or 3 only penalizes. I haven't found a photo yet that deserves to be penalized. A no-vote is a better option sometimes IMO.

And I thank you very much for the comment Don - I was able to see it from a different viewpoint as to why it was not resonating strongly.

Capturing the emotion of sadness (or any emotion) is tough - it may resonate strong with one group while another it does not.

What I would LOVE is more comments!!! My score is a head above 6 but I wish I had more than one comment:-(

CHALLENGE ALERT!!!

This weekend I pledge to find time to comment on at least 20% of the entries. I pledge to constructively say what the pro and cons of the photo is or why in my humble opinion the photo is good. The Sadness challenge needs more comment love.

Anyone else with me? [/quote]

You're not alone, I'm seeing that as well. In fact, I'm sad to say this is one of the lowest average votes I have given for a challenge.

worse than "water bottle" challenge? I thought it was the worst :P

I'm disappointed with my score! It makes me wonder what people are thinking when they vote. I want to know why I'm receiving such low votes. The comments I received so far do not offer me any improvement feedback.

I'm pretty certain I met the challenge, my exposure is good, etc...
