I feel that I may have met most people's interpretation of 'Negative Space' but still produced an uninspiring image.

Yeah, me too. I don't even like my own photo. Boo. :S

This is down from 6.18 at 27 votes! My interpretation is that a lot of voters do not understand what Negative Space means. The same happened with the Rule of Thirds. I have seen there photos that had subject cover only one third of the frame (!) With the Negative Space the common thinking must be that more than 50% of the photo should be a blank area with no pattern of any kind allowed. We'll see how many of entries in the under 5.5 range have the literal blank space when the voting is over (excluding the experimenting PH crowd). It should be interesting.

It was obvious from many of the entries that the concept/understanding of Negative Space was variable. Blank space or lots of open space is not necessarily negative space.

One of my favorite definitions...empty space, surrounded and shaped so that it acquires a sense of form or volume.

So, who cares how big or small it is, as long as it is effective.

So are you saying this challenge is about the empty space? How interesting is that? he he he

There were a large number of photos that I thought did not meet the challenge. I'm hoping to start a discussion after the challenge is over, because there seems to be a large dichotomy in interpretations.

I predicted a 5.3 on this, but it lingered at a high 4 the entire week which was very dissapointing.
However in the last 24 hours the score has really been shooting upwards. I am quite pleased.
My take on it is that lots of people must be readjusting mine up, since new votes generally don't make this much change this late in the voting.

My only hope for a better score is if Langdon is playing an early April Fool's joke on our "negative" scores and miraculously they will all go "up" at rollover.
Somehow, I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

Really disappointed that my score is this low. I thought I had a pretty good photo. Especially unhappy that I have so many low scores without any comments explaining why or giving me constructive criticisms.

Weird. It goes down to 5.95 then back up to 6, and again with almost every vote.
