It sure doesn't seem like this is still alive...

I'm checking to see if the multi- city GTG is still on?

If so, I'll work up the Utah location.

I hope we can lock down the date in the near future since this GTG (for me anyways) requires a good deal of planning and early ordering of flights to keep the cost down.

Would it be possible for SC to make a vote on the front page? My suggestion would be something like this:

DPC Galla May 20-22 weekend
- Date is good
- Date is no good
- Not attending event

I don't think we should give options for dates in the vote. It will just make it too messy. If the majority of atendees are good with the date, I see no reason to change it.

Vote deadline end of February maybe?

That's perfect, General

How about I just change the title, but leave out the specific date for now?

Not a problem. If we can commit to the May 20-22 weekend, the title should be

I like the idea of the name change since the event has morphed into something even greater. Does the OP have to be the one to change the title of the thread?
We should also start threads for each state that is hosting so 'individual' details can be worked out.
01/15/2011 07:12:24 PM · #8
It's no problem to change the thread title, just specify how you want it to read.
01/15/2011 05:40:24 PM · #9
I wonder, would it help if the OP requested a change in the thread title to indicate that it is now a multi-site event and is planned for May, that is if it's possible to change the title at this stage. It's possible that might garner more interest/activity and get DPCs in other locations thinking about joining in. Just a thought. :-)

There is an iPhone/Ipod Touch app called Facetalk. It would work. But it needs to be the newer generation gear with cameras on the front of the device.

To some extent, that might be possible via smart phones. Need young people to assist.

So, if we're going to have some simul-partying, and we're to consider a video link (which may be tricky due not so much to technical issues, but time zone ones), we'll need some techie wizards to help. Smardaz? Spiritualspatula? Beuller? Anyone?

Yuppers, I'll take the Kentucky area. Busy at work now but I'll start a thread soon as I can. Would be cool to connect via video.

I'm ready for someone in Texas to step up. We could do it but we did the last one here. We are going to one in Houston in March. San Antonio is a pretty city with lots to photograph. Well, maybe we should be a bit further or closer to the coast. Bugs and Heat aren't too much fun in Texas.

Any takers?

Mission San Antonio is well worth the visit. It's out in the middle of nowhere and the setting is magnificent.

Mission San Miguel in the town of San Miguel is worth a visit, too. It's right off of US 101, so it's really easy to get to. In fact, you can see it from the highway.

Mission San Miguel was almost destroyed in the 2003 earthquake, but they've shored things up, and you can go through it again. The sanctuary is especially interesting, because it's never been "restored". All of the murals and decorations are the same ones that were painted by the Indians under the direction of the Spanish priests.

Every time I go to Northern California, if I'm driving I try and visit Mission San Miguel and Mission San Antonio de Padua. They aren't that visited, and a lot of the time you have the whole place to yourself.

You're right about that, San Miguel is special too. Once, a long time ago, I made it my business to visit every surviving mission in California. Got a few in Baja too :-)

To be that young again. If we aren't to old, you aren't to young.
And keep in mind that not everyone there will be drinking - so you may actually have one or two people who will be able to speak with you without slurring.

What's that got to do with anything? Or are you saying you wouldn't be caught dead with us old farts?

Penny and I are in an enviable position with regards to this, of course: we're already planning to be in the very general vicinity at approximately that time, since at some point we WILL be driving down the entire length of the Big Sur coast at least as far as Cambria...

So, we will see what develops :-)
