I didn't report in this thread cause my score was on a very slow rise during voting; almost a whole point from a 4.3 something to a 5.19 AND it was marked as a fav!

Sometimes the comments are on track, sometimes not. I mentally divide the feedback into two broad categories: Actual flaws and personal preferences, though the line between the two is sometimes fuzzy.

For instance, a comment that says there is haloing showing around my subject I will consider to be pointing out a flaw. A comment about the way I chose to crop and compose the image is a personal preference. (Unless my composition is so poor that multiple people leave the same comment, then I take it as a flaw.) It is still a valid critique of the entry and could help explain a poor performance.

LOL some people have changed their names till hidden during voteing... (giggle) you should've done that BEFORE I saw your names.. LOL It don't matter to me if it's hidden or not, I appreciate anyone taking the time to comment!

I BRAVED up and made my first suggestion comment on this challenge as to what I might have done different.. THEN apologized all over the place for making it, did leave it, but feel like I am not qualified to suggest to some one else what might have made their imanige better... I can say it in my mind.... but feel like a dog to post it.. I LOVE to get these kind of comments, because it makes me LOOK at my photo in a different way, So how does one (even though I was very nice about it and kept stateing IN MY OPINION ONLY) get over the I feel unqualified to comment in this way???

You need to realize that your opinion is exactly that -- your opinion. Opinions are neither right nor wrong. In your mind it would be better a certain way. Open-minded photographers will appreciate the comments and the thoughts and then politely ignore them and think their way is better. But they will greatly appreciate the insight into another person's viewing of the photo.

Closed minded photographers will be close minded to almost anyone - regardless of their qualifications as a photographer.

The majority of people appreciate the comments, whether or not they agree with them. So go ahead and make suggestions. I usually apologize when making those types of comments, also, just in case I irritate someone. :D

Some how missed this post above mine.. Thanks Wendy.. LOL gald to get your opinion on that, and LOL to see someone else apologizes!!

An honest criticism from Lydiatoo. Can't really have any argument with it.

That was not intentional, sorry. Changing to hidden in Preferences changes it on all comments currently in voting. I decided this is a better way to comment for all future challenges.

Oh I didn't mean anything about it... Your not the only one who did the hidden thing.. In my opinion it really don't make a difference.. I do go thru the names to see how they stand on past challenge socres during the challenge just out of curiosity .. But, Unless it's one particular PERSON on YoSpiff's photographs, I have NEVER recgonized the photographer by the pictre... So it wouldn't affect my vote a bit if the name was showing and someone left me a comment like this stinks beyond stinking! LOL... I know there's been a lot of controversity about comments made, but I am not one who worries about that, Hey if we all like the very same thing, it'd be a boring world!

I have learned sooo much here on DPC... put up a picture that I think is pretty darn good, it ends up in the middle end of the pack, go thru the winners and see what the difference in tecniques are, the comp, etc etc... Next time maybe I've learned something that I can add (or take away) from my pix to make it better... Any how... it's a virtual site, ya win a virtual ribbon, Have a tough skin, don't be afraid of criticism to get or give... If you do give a sorta neg criticism state why you feel it.. You did that on my photograph and although I may not aggree 100% I got to see the photo thru your eyes and that is a helpful thing!

Have managed to climb to this from a 5.2.
Might be lucky enough to squeeze a 5.5 out of it for rollover with any luck.

Doing ok, but not great. I think I'm not out of whack enough. This shot would have probably done better in a different challenge.

Seems logic enough to me, everything's so Ooooff lately.

This is an unbalanced challenge. Soooo....the entries with the low votes are actually at the winners end, whilst the high scores are at the other end. Hey that means....I win...yayyyy!

I am trying hard to understand this. My predicted 5.0 is now close to 6, while my predicted 6 (Work) is close to 5! I was spot on with my prediction before.

The shortest distance between here and the loony bin is trying to predict scores.

edit to add that my score continues to sink. Slowly. Very. Very. Sloooooowwwllyyyyyyyyy

I decided to start tracking the voting for this and the last 10 votes went:
6-4-2-7-4-8-4-3-7-3

No 5's - should be an interesting spread of votes at the end. Oh, and the commentators all like it, even the DNMC one.

Three more votes (they are coming slowly) 6-3-8.
I predicted this shot wouldn't finish in the 5's as I thought people would either like it or hate it. Hate is winning but I'm enjoying the ride :-)
