ummm... I think it's all the shots with the funky cut-out borders. It looks like there's only one funky border left in the group.

5 DQ's so far. I wonder if the overlapping rule has cut some of them out of the running?

Well I was wrong about the image in the other thread. Indeed it's only three photos:

no... If I remember the photo correctly, I believe that she put two halves together to make a completely new photo (three times), and then put borders around them. In that case, you're creating a photo that never existed.

.....and using more than the 3 images allowed for the challenge.

Send in a ticket.

Thanks I just did, and they said it was because I split an image. Which would have been fine if I only split it and had three, but I split 3 pictures in half which I guess makes a total of six images. Didn't know that splitting an image and rearanging it made it into a new image, but is helpful so that I don't make the same mistake again in a future challenge.

Two excellent comments. Thanks! And, two comments which were "not helpful". Just ignored those.

Actually I just reread the ruling and I think this may have been what it was.

You may not use ANY editing tool to move, remove or duplicate any element of your photograph that would change a typical viewer's description of the photograph (aside from color), even if the tool is otherwise legal, and regardless of whether you intended the change when the photograph was taken.

I just didn't think that cutting your pictures in half and putting them in a different order was illegal. I used the same photo, I just cut it in half, and used each side in a different spot.

I would recommend that you send in a ticket requesting further information.

I think I will, like I said I am not that heartbroken over being diqualified as my picture wasn't doing that well, but I would like to have better clarification so that I don't repeat the mistake in future challenges.

How does this happen, by the way? Did someone actually ask for validation? How on earth would anyone know a hand was missing that should be there? Strange things are afoot. Also, can someone please DQ my complimentary colors photo? The score's going down so fast it's gone plaid.

I really have no idea how this happened. I can't imagine anyone asking for validation on my photo, for the most part it was a very strait forward edit. Obviously I should have edited more, my score was terrible. The stupid thing is had 3 other shots that would have worked just as well with no hand in it. But I liked the facial expression slightly more in the one I used and had no idea what I was doing was illegal, so I just went with it.

I'm wondering whether you would have been better off just cloning out the hand. In advanced, you can clone out minor things. I'm wondering if you created a new space on the other side of the picture when you moved things over. (I'm not saying that well... But, for example, if you moved things to the right, did you create extra space on the left that didn't exist? If so, that's adding something to an image and is illegal. Whereas, if you just cloned out something unimportant, you can get away with it--if it doesn't really change the description of the picture.)

I guess that is possible, but if I did, it was covered up by another photo and did not show. When the contest ends, you will have to look at my picture, it will be much easier to figure out what I did wrong. It has to be something with the hand otherwise I really have no idea what it would be. I did cut my pictures in half and paste them together in a different order. could that be what it is? But many people did that so I can't imagine that would be the case.

did you use a weird, funky border?

I knew cloning was illegal, so I duplicate the layer then moved it over to cover the spot and masked out the rest of the layer. I should have known this wasn't allowed. A newbie mistake I guess.

The picture wasn't doing very well anyway, so I guess I am glad I learned that you can't do that on this photo, instead of one that was getting a really good score. I would really be kicking myself if that were the case.

This is an advanced editing challenge, therefore cloning and masking are allowed as long as you don't remove any major elements.

I knew I could clone out stray hairs and such, I thought layer mask were legal as well, I use them all the time in advanced editing. But this time I used one to cover up a small(very small) section of a hand that was showing and I didn't want it to. I used the same photo but moved it so it covered up the part I didn't want to show with a similar section of the duplicated photo.

Lots of great comments. The ironic thing is that I have received more tips and suggestions for improvement than I have ever gotten on any of my much worse images. All of the comments are very true of course, I just find it funny that my higher scoring image is racking in all of the feedback :-P
