Well well well.

After eliminating the #1 seed (Washington), the Habs eliminate #4 and current Stanley Cup Champion, Pittsburgh.

Who will stop them now? San Jose? Philadelphia? Certainly not Boston.

Woohoo!

Go Habs Go!

Can't say that I care. I got rid of my season's tickets and now can afford to travel and buy nice camera gear.

I get the feeling that their run will end against either Philly or Boston. Both Washington and Pittsburgh lacked shutdown defensemen. That won't be the case movin forward.

I don't think you can dismiss Boston out of hand, sheesh. We've come through all season when we had to.

Agreed. The smurfs havent had to go against a Chara or a Pronger with Philly. Neither one of those guys would sleep walk through a game like what Gonchar did tonight for the Pens and Mike Green has many times with the Caps.

Except against the Habs. :) 1-5 vs Montreal this year. Boston = Dr Jekyl & Mr Hyde, you never know who'll show up. Habs have been consistent throughout the playoffs, even in their loses.

Truth be told - I think Blackhawks will knock off the Sharks and meet your Habs in the finals. . . and then the hawks will leave with the cup :D

What's a "Hab"?
05/13/2010 02:40:32 PM · #14
The habs is a shortened nickname for the Montreal Canadians. It is short for Les Habitants.

Habitants is the name used to refer to both the French settlers and the inhabitants of French origin who farmed the land along the two shores of the St. Lawrence Gulf and River in what is the present-day Province of Quebec in Canada.

The name "Habs", from the French "Les Habitants", is now used as a nickname for the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team; one of their many cheers is "Go Habs Go".

Thanks for the info.

One of the funnier things I ever saw was when I a photographing a hockey game in Houston. We have the Aeros, minor league team. I was shooting from one of the penalty boxes. 2 players got into a fight (big surprise) and were sent to the boxes. The penalty boxes were separated by the scorer’s table. They kept yelling at each other across the scorer’s table in French. After several minutes of this they quieted down for a bit as they'd run out of insults, then one got up shouted to the other, "SEPARATIST!!!!”

Like he had run out insults for him, his mother and sisters, and this was the worst thing left to call him.

;-)

Haha, great story...I've seen the Areos play here in Hamilton, against the Bulldogs a few times. Probable saw a fight or two as well!

I am very sorry for you. Seeing them get eliminated year after year by the same two teams has got to be frustrating, to say the least.

scarbrd, I'd rather be called anything than a separatist pig.

When I heard it, it sounded like a pretty serious insult, but to someone as far removed from Canada as Houston, Texas, it seemed pretty harmless. I guess it's like someone from Texas and being called a damn yankee. ;-)

That's a pretty fair comparison.

Pffft. We relate to Philadelphians about as well as Indonesians.

If the Red Wings can't have Lord Stanley's cup, then just as long as the G.D. Penguins don't get it...

We actually relate better to Indonesians than we do to Pittsburgers. Why do you have that 'h' in your town name anyway???

Dismissed!

Would have liked to have seen Boston/Montreal but Flyers/Montreal will be good entertainment. Two very hot teams at the moment.
