Anyone else signed on this year? The date window is 1st June - 31st July so it's starting soon. It's the first year for me and i'm looking forward to it. I'm going to be a bit ambitious and attempt two books which i've already started planning. I'm not sure of what to use for the PDF yet though.

'SoFoBoMo is short for Solo Photo Book Month - a group event where a bunch of photographers all make solo photo books start to finish in 31 days.'

I remember Gordon did a really good one a couple of years ago - I wonder what happened to him - haven't seen him here in a very long time. I do miss his people shots.

I did it last year too, haven't signed up yet, but will do so. Haven't decided the theme yet. I really enjoyed it.

Clive, 2 books is really ambitious!

Thats really nice. Very cool design. Blurb looks good as well (has anyone held a blurb book in their hands and can attest to the quality?)

It is a bit but there are two subjects i really want to do and i won't be going massively out of my way to do them.

First i want to do a book of black and white close up/macro images of my daughter. I thought this would be a lovely thing to do each year as she is growing up and the resulting books would make cool little presents for grandparents etc.

The other one i want to do is a series of derelict doors and windows round where i live. This sort of thing, (which was my original 'A IS FOR.... ' entry.) It's a theme and subject im drawn to and hope it'll be an interesting collection in a landscape format book.

Sounds perfect Clive :) I look forward to seeing it.

ETA. Ooh, I just noticed that the dates coincide with my trip to NYC for the DPC GTG. Hmm. Now food for thought indeed.

I did this last year... was a great experience, and signed up to do this years a month or so ago. Looking forward to SOFOBOMO 2010.

I did one last year. Well, I took the pictures, and did the book, but never uploaded it.

Since then, I've done a couple of other photo books for various reasons, so I think I could probably manage it, if I tried.

It's not that hard -- the challenge suggestion thread on churches reminded me that last year I did my project on Churches of Temescal (my neighborhood).

Start date is fast approaching. Always a rewarding kick in the pants to do this.

Do we need to put our name in this thread before the starting date?

I think it's more that you should register on the SOFOBOMO site itself.

Is this new pictures that we have to take in a month or can you use pictures that you've already taken?

The idea is to shoot and edit and compile the book, all within the month.

Terry, the intention of SoFoBoMo is to make oneself committed in completing a photobook all within a month. People who look for it are people who had been thinking of doing something similar but always used to postpone waiting for the right collection to come or due to lack of time. So all in that spirit, the real task is to complete photo book from SCRATCH within 31 days. But there are no DQs invovled.

precisely!

you don't have to wait until the start date to start thinking about what you're going to do.

think about it like this: just about anyone is capable of taking pictures. one of the things this exercise does is to get you to think about doing something with your pictures. you actually have to spend some time thinking, planning, sketching, and then shooting. then comes the real work: learning the workflow necessary to actually create a publishable body of work.

yes, it does take some time and commitment, but in the end, you'll have something tangible to show what you're capable of when you push yourself to do more than push the shutter button.

fwiw, because of work constraints, last year i shot my entire book in one day...

So, fuzzy month starts tomorrow and i'm all set i'd say. I'm starting one book on the 1st and one on the 16th to stagger them.

Whispered Exits

Matilda Fey - 80 to 111 days.

I've got Scribus for making the book. I'm planning on keeping it simple and not go overboard with the graphic design and Scribus looks fine for that.

One annoying think i'm encountering is the SoFoBoMo site crashing my browser often when i log in (safari on mac). Not sure what that is about although i'm having the same happen with YouTube.

I signed up, but don't know when I will start, or what my topic will be. I begin a film photography class this Saturday, and I have a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in July (but don't have a great tele lens yet).

Maybe I will do something in Black and White.

Oh well, I better decide soon. It's going to be fun!!!
