Welcome to this week's "Member of the Week" post. Every week I will post the name of a member and a link to their profile. This will be our Member of the Week. Go have a look at their profile page and/or portfolio. Enjoy their photos, leave some comments and most of all post one or two of their photos in this thread so others can see them and enjoy them. If you like you can also write a little blurb saying why you enjoy this member's photos.

This week's Member of the Week is sfalice. And here are a couple of her photos.

One of the niftiest personalities on DPC and someone I really need to meet! Not only is Alice a prolific photographer - and one very willing to experiment and take chances - but she is one of THE top contributors at DPC. If you've asked for a Critique Club comment, chances are you've received one from her. The stats for top ten ALL TIME:

Top 10 - All Time
User Critiques
sfalice 527
karmat 512
HBunch 505
jmsetzler 489
ambaker 433
ericwoo 355
OneSweetSin 349
loseme 308
kari1 272
JulietNN 243

And critique club comments are a lot of work! So in addition to her fine photographic talents (for those that don't know, she's part of a gallery!) she's also deserving of thanks for the work she puts in here. For free!

Thanks Alice, and I WILL get up there to meet you one of these days, I promise!

WOW – ME!

Thanks, KarenNfld. This is an honor that I cherish, you bet!

It’s rather wonderful to have my name placed in the company of the others who have been selected as Member of the Week.

There is so much to learn and experiment with here at DPC.

Certainly the last seven or so years that I have been a member of the site truly have been a wild and exciting photographic journey. One that I continue to enjoy immensely.

LOL - Melethia, Deb, sure, it's about time we met. Meet ya half way? Say Morro Bay? Soon?

Alice
:)

Even though I have been online-friends with Alice for a while (via DPL team ImageNation), I don't think I ever delved into her portfolio quite like this. Alice's vast Wonderland of images revealed! ;)

Congratulations Alice. I don't live far from you, have shot in the some of the same places (Elkhorn Slough) and I am definitely going to visit your gallery in SF this year. If you decide to make another visit south, please let me know. I would love to go out with you - I am about 90 miles away. I am not posting any of your shots as there are just too many I love and I can't make up my mind. Karen, you sure picked the right person! Maggie

Hey Alice, why don't you tell us how you got started in photography and what brought you to this site?

Tygerr suggested I write about how I got started in this fascinating field of photography.

It’s surprisingly easy to relate. I got my start from my dad, who took pictures of everything! Including the kids. He had a rule that his subjects (victims?) should face the sun, thus ensuring that the common denominator in all our development pictures was squinty eyes and a crooked neck.

I started recording my fun times with the sports car crowd as a young woman, including my first in a series of MGs. In those days, hard to believe now, a gal on a secretary’s salary could own one easily.

Then on to more arty things when my guy built a darkroom. That’s where Tommy appeared at his best. Still, my camera(s) were used mostly to record the little details of life – including every single “Welcome to the State of ….” sign when we traveled across country to live in San Francisco. Mercifully none of these survive.

Eventually, my camera was a useful tool (along with drawings)for my more adventurous travel journals.

Then the Digital Age came along, and well, you rather wonderful DPC friends have been exploring my portfolio pages and can see what’s been happening ever since.

.........

Thank you, Karen, for posting my name, and thank you everyone for your very thoughtful words and pictures.
