I skipped 4 so I'm ready for 5 now. My question though, If I upgrade to CS5 and in 6 months I decide I want extended am I SOL? Thats how it appears with cs4.

I don't know about being SOL if you upgrade w/o getting Extended. but I know that I have changed my mind about this issue...

I now have CS4 (not Extended). I have been beta testing CS5, and I am definitely going to upgrade to CS5 Extended. Not that I think I will ever use all the tools, but I like knowing that I have lots of possibilities, epecially with video on many cameras these days.

Hmm, I skipped 4 and 3. Maybe it's time to upgrade.

There's some very cool stuff in CS5 that I think would definitely make it worth the upgrade for most people who use it seriously.

I will definately be upgrading from 4 to 5 but it is going to have to wait awhile. Got other expenses to cover first.

anyone know what or where the upgrade pricing is?
04/10/2010 09:01:05 PM · #7
Be careful is you use plug ins. They may not work with CS5.

Isn't the release party/announcement on Monday (April 12th for those coming in late), but the actual release is later on (I've heard April 14th, May 15th and August 1st as actual release dates)?

"The new Adobe Photoshop CS5 Learning Center goes LIVE on April 12th to coincide with the Adobe release. The "Photoshop Guys" have been burning the midnight oil to bring you up to speed on all the latest features. And let me tell you, they are really excited and impressed at what Adobe cooked up for Photoshop CS5, and you will be too!

Plus, as soon as the Adobe Launch Event wraps up, Scott and the "Photoshop Guys" will host their first in a week-long series of LIVE webinars where they'll show you some of the finer points of Photoshop CS5 and answer your questions."

I dont think you can launch CS5 without releasing it. But thats just me. That would be like launching a rocket without taking it outside.

Oh farther down it also says-

"To celebrate the release of Photoshop CS5, Scott and the guys will also be giving away one free CS5 upgrade daily during their live webcasts! Plus, we've also cooked up some great deals for you on your NAPP membership renewal (see below), Photoshop World tickets, our brand new CS5 training DVDs, and more!"

You've never done that?

I should've said ship date, not release date.

The estimated availability date according to Adobe is April 29th.....so yeah, they're launching the rocket indoors only

Wow, you missed out on A LOT of great features. Especially in CS4. I still run CS2 on my relatively slow laptop with XP SP3 and CS4 on my quad core desktop with 8 gig of ram and an Nvidia 9800 GT (runs great under Windows 7 x64).

Whenever I have to use the laptop with CS2 I get frustrated because I'm always looking for features that aren't there!

Definitely think it's time to upgrade Dr. Maybe not totally necessary, but sure makes life a bit easier during post processing.

I likely will, but give me a hint on what I've been missing!?

I guess what I got was an announcement of the announcement, how annoying.

Hey Dr, you can only upgrade from CS2 or higher so you might as well get it this time.

I just now learned finished learning all the new stuff in CS3 so its just now time for more.(as if I really know it all) :)

I saw a demo of the new selection tools that worked very nicely selecting hair.

Totally Nothing whatsoever. You should so stick with CS2, CS4 sucks and CS5 has no new features that you can use. Don't buy it, you will be so disappointed and lose all that money. It will not make your pictures any better at all.

What she said.. but with even more smiley faces... I upgraded from CS2 to CS4 and found it to be much better, A more friendly interface, Smoother operation, I think that working with layers is much easier in CS4. So far the only thing I have seen for CS5 is the healing tools which indeed have improved 10X over. For that reason alone I will eventually upgrade to 5 when I can budget it. If you are thinking about upgrading, Now is probably the best time to do it, You wont regret it.

I'm fortunate enough to work just below the computer science department. When a new upgrade comes out they are all over it like white on rice. They're nice enough to ask around to see who wants one. The educational price for the upgrade for the Master Suite is ridiculously low from what I understand.

thanks for reminding me of that discount. It makes the choice a little easier.

I've been trying to find information as to whether CS5 is cross-platform like LightRoom or not. I can't seem to find the answer on the Adobe site. Does anyone have a reference they can point me to?
