This is the reason for android, the wifi tethering abilities. Too bad apple won't do the same with the iPhone.

How is the battery life on the Andriod when using it as an access point or tethered?

Not too bad at all at least with the Nexus One. I think more battery consumption is used by the screen than the tether. I will charge up the Nexus this weekend and surf for an hour on the Ipad and let you know the percentage used.

Would anyone have a good recommendation for a RDP client software that works on the Ipad? Thanks!

I was thinking today how useful that would be. In fact, if there was an RDP client app available, it'd mean I wouldn't need to carry a laptop with me.

Well, if you find a good one let me know! The RDP for the Mac laptop doesn't indicate it supports IPad as well. But, I'm not a MAC person...so I need a guru...;-)

I use one called Desktop. You can control Macs or PCs on your network.

Moving the mouse takes some getting used to, but you get used to it.

So with the Nexus battery fully charged, I surfed for an hour straight on the Ipad and the phone battery consumption was 13%. The Ipad was 7%.

Not to shabby if you ask me.

apple is in the market for selling apps and itunes.

google (andriod) is in for advertising.

Microsoft doesn't know what they want to do, which is the problem.

They had so little clue that not only is the Kin dead, I never heard of it in the first place...


I saw several ads for it during the NBA playoffs. Looks like that acquired a decent product when they bought Danger, then tried to convert it from a JAVA based platform to Windows Mobile and then charged way too much for the target market.

Good plan.

Microsoft has way too much of a habit of sticking their finger into every pot in a very noncommittal way. When they commit, they can do well. The X-box is a prime example of this.

You can see Google copying this strategy somewhat, which may not be good for them.

This reinforces the belief that a man can excel at one or two things, but rarely to many. When those who try to do too many things, they will do them mediocre.

I'd have to see a comparison of other companies when they enter the field for the first time to know if this is good or bad. In the end though, the X-box is a force to contend with and is a heralded gaming system seen as the essential system for the hard-core gamer.

Sorry Dave, I have to Side with Doc on this. I have an Xbox 360 and Ever since I bought it I havent touched my nintendo Wii. ;)

I think Dave is only claiming that it took 8 years for the XBox to become profitable. The Wii didn't come out till 2006 and almost immediately started to make a profit. The Wii and XBox serve two different markets and both are successful at it. To see how well the Wii has done see the "System Sales" section in this wiki link.

I have been on the fence with if i should or not buy an Ipad since they released it. Hasn't been too hard to avoid because they have not released them here in NZ. But in two weeks I am going back to Wisconsin for a visit and had decided that I would purchase one when I go back. I have been watching Best Buys website checking to see which stores have them in stock and all the stores in the area I am from have been out. I was looking at the 16gig version or maybe the 32 gig version but they have not been in stock for the longest time however 2 stores have had the 64 gig in stock. So today I bit the bullet and called one of the local stores and placed an order by phone. Paid for a 64 gig in full and they will be putting it aside until I arrive to pick it up. The main reason I did this is to take advantage of the 18 months interest free financing. That and I wanted to be sure that I got one while I am back without having to drive all over the country to find one. I also made an order from the Apple Store for the Camera attachment kit. So I should be good to go. If they have the other versions in stock when I arrive to pick it up, I am able to downsize to one of the others as long as the package remains unopened. ETA: Just got an email from Best Buy, They got some 32 gig models in and offered me one in place of the 64 gig model, So they are giving me a 100 dollar refund on my CC and I will now get the 32 gig model which is sort of what I wanted in the first place. I am a happy camper. The best part is I am picking up my rental car just a few blocks from the BB Store it is at so I will be killing two birds with one stone and will not have to make an extra trip to pick either up.

I bought a 64gb 3G iPad for myself and a smaller wi-fi version for my wife. Neither of us have touched our laptops since. Other than photo editing, the desktop is not being used either. I absolutely love it and typing this right now from my iPad in a hotel room in Sweden. The iPad is now also my only device (other than my iPhone) used for travel - both business and pleasure.

The concept of apps that are super cheap increases the initiative for developers and as a result The iPad now does things easier and better than my lap/desktop. For example one button access to parcel tracking, business reports etc. If there isn't an 'app' for it, it probably isn't worth having! :)

I also use it to take notes in business meetings with an app that stores everything in 'the cloud' so you can access your notes from the web later. When I cheer meetings I don't appreciate use of laptops since I feel it is difficult to connect with the audience when they're hiding behind their screens.
