...but i need some opinions, i just switched out my monitor (for a larger used one) its a dell 2001fp. I decided to run the display setup from my video card (nvidia) after I adjusted the gamma settings my picture seem VERY dark to me, whereas if I go to a website it looks fairly normal. so i am wondering if someone could look some of my shots and tell me if you think they would indicate that i been using bad settings these last 4 years?

Are all the color preferences set correctly in the profile? sRGB, etc.

Your entries all look fine to me. Maybe the new monitor is off?

The shirt with the soundboard in it looks a bit dark, but mainly it's a loss of details in the darker areas of the card.. Most stuff looks just fine to me, then again I wonder about my monitor..

Care to reciprocate when you aren't looking at the monitor of midnight?

I often ask myself this question after I get comments that my image was dark. I calibrate my monitors every month and they're spot on. Your images all look great to me and none hint of being too dark at all, even your darker images.

We should have a photo with a grey scale on it that DPC users can use to see if their monitor's brightness and contrast are close to normal so we can all be at a level playing field when commenting and voting. I got a comment tonight that said my image was too dark but it isn't at all. Kind of pisses me off that I would lose points because someone's monitor is not well calibrated.

Still new in the editing area and I spent half my time the other day trying to clean my monitor only to realise I really need to clean my sensor in camera *who knew* lol... So on that point, ummm I'm supposed to calibrate my monitor??? Help... have no clue how one would go about doing that so a quick tutorial would be so awesome *big grin*.

Hi Shannon,

Lots of people purchase a specific bit of hardware to do the calibration - a thing that looks like a mouse but you hang it over the screen to read the colours and the associated software tweaks the system to get the display correct.

Without hardware it's more difficult, but try this

Ignore the deep technical stuff initially but look at the gamma chart and the colour calibration images. It'll be better than nothing.
