Can I have a martini instead?

MY FAVORITE posthumousmism: "Please grant me the serenity to accept the stupid comments I cannot change, the courage to leave my own stupid comments, and the wisdom to know eye candy from art. "

BEER? You're serving beer? I haven't been sending you all that money just to drink beer at some tacky goodbye party. A snifter of Grand Marnier, please. With a soda back.

If you're interested in why I'm leaving, check my profile. Just rest assured that I don't want to go. I like it here. I even like the numbnuts that I knock heads with. And so, as with anyone who is pained to leave, I'd like to stretch it out a bit.

Think of this as an Irish Wake slash New Orleans Funeral. I'm ready to hear your eulogies, toasts, roasts and last requests. No sentimentalism, please! Tell it like it is.

And I realize the unfortunate timing, but this is not an April Fool's joke.

Okay, let's break out those lampshades and disco balls!!

wait a minute....is this a grand AFD joke?

It was near midnight on a "worknight" when this brouhaha erupted last night -- exactly how do you expect a group of volunteers to have a rational discussion, conduct further investigation, provide statistics you (the group) demanded, all in less than twelve hours? SC members are not all in the same place or on the same schedule.

The issues are being discussed. It's quite possible further actions will be taken (or perhaps un-taken) in the relatively-near future, or maybe not -- I don't know for sure. See below ...

Not tacky, but maybe a little premature. Why is everyone making pronouncements and saying things that are going to be hard to take back later? Has it been 24 hours yet? Maybe you should give the SC time to consider the fallout. I don't want to see you go, btw.

Didn't see anywhere the timestamp for the eruption of this exact incident...I just saw a party started.
My bad. (Good think the weekend is starting and my camera is back. - serenity now...) ;P

Here's a thought......what on earth would lead any of you to the conclusion that it would make any sense whatsoever, on *ANY* level, that Don gives a rat's ass about scores?

You talk about bering objective, fair, and not wanting to get accused of playing favorites, but that's just absurd as a justification for what's being done to Don.

No matter what comes of this, that little f*ckup will cost you, and the site, for a while. To make everyone question and examine their voting style and to have to worry about it is going to have effects that will make people unhappy, and eventually wander off.

Of course, you can just dismiss my ravings as that of a lunatic and make yourselves feel better, but if it doesn't sooner or later sink in what a mistake this was, I really feel sad for you all.

Mark it on the calendar Jeb, this is a moment when I agree whole heartedly with you, it was the first thing i thought...."will my voting be under scrutiny next?"

Well, Don. I'm in no mood to party, yet. Hope you don't mind if I keep my lights on for a while and lay off the spirits.

BTW, Don, thanks for my Posthuomous yellow. I feel more proud of that as a sign of my growth and advancement as a photog than my "real" ribbons. It is displayed with pride right smack in the center of my profile page.

You can't leave yet! I'm still trying to get my first Posthumous ribbon.

And this kind of response helps the situation ... how?

Couldn't your opinion be expressed equally accurately and with less emotional baggage by saying "Hey, I think you guys made a mistake -- I hope you'll reconsider"?

Good point and good words - I do agree. However, all of the commotion shows that people care - that's a good thing. I've said in DPC forums before, as an educator - we would nigh on kill to get this sort of peer interaction going on.

Also, I think the debate is painful but healthy, I like the way the arguments are being worked through in public - all part of true participation.

I'd also like to commend the SC (and Langdon) for staying with the debate, chipping in when they feel the need - not walking away from the consequences of the decisions they have made and remaining open-minded.

Oops - I forgot it was a party. Might it be acceptable for me to have a large glass of Port?

FWIW - I think maybe you guys made a mistake and I hope you'll reconsider.

NIKONJEB This is my point right here and why I believe what has been done is right. When people are trying to Win Posthumous ribbons instead of what this site is about, competing against the norm of the site. I think its wrong. In the right forum I'm right there with you. Example the "Fine Arts challenge". This isn't The Don Posthumous Challenge site. Do I think Don should be banned. NO. Do I think he needs to decide if this is the right site for him and his style. YES.

I agree and hope that people give you time to air this out and that there is a positive outcome. I'm absolutely sure there was no malicious intent on behalf of the SC in any way, shape or form and that you are reconsidering your conclusions based on some of the possible angles that have been brought to light.

Cheers

eta: Ace - I think you have a very narrow vision of and for this site. IMO as a learning site, aside from the Challenges there probably hasn't been a more potent vehicle for education here outside of the posthumous Ribbon Awards and the side Challenge spurred on by people realizing there are other ways of thinking about photography besides the Ribbon quest. It has probably been one of the healthier extensions from the sites mission statement that has encouraged many people to think outside of the box and provided a comfortable, nurturing home for those who always did. It also helped the site from falling completely into a cold technical, eye candy bubble that it had been suffering from for a long time.

AMEN! There's actually nothing that chills me more than watching members of a majority imply, or outright state, that perhaps the minority would be better off moving on. In fact, it pisses me off.

To be quite honest, I think it's a bit arrogant to start your own bye bye topic, and start some kind of begging for people to take your side...

Yes, your pics are great, but you made up your own mind to leave.. So leave..
