Yes, you are indeed a newcomer.

And really, Richard ( Scarbrd), the Abstractists aren't collusionists. There would of course be a revolution, followed by an uprising, then an overthrow. And it would just take entirely too much time. :-)

But I am thinking of starting a flickr group if the oddities here are not overcome by events somehow. All will be welcome. It will not, however, have the nifty feature of anonymity in challenges (which, despite the fact I recognize photog's work VERY often) is a neat feature. Don't know how it would work.

Along that line, though, does anyone know how to massively download one's portfolio here to include the photog's comments? My portfolio is kinda a diary of sorts for me, and I've put info in the photog's notes that I'd like to keep with the photos. Would I have to do this manually, one at a time?

(As a newcomer, you may not realize that our dear Brian has a very dry sense of humor.)

All we need is live commentary by Herbert Morrison over the radio...

"Oh, my! Get out of the way, please! And all the folks agree that this is terrible; this is the one of the worst catastrophes in the world. Oh, the humanity!"

omg, is that a fat joke?!? Have you no decency?

Decency? I had some of that once, but I sold it to buy drugs.

So, are you gonna be the new Rikki? If so, can I have your autograph?

I was wondering how long it would take before Rikki's name would pop up. Lol

If you have to do it one image at a time, you could cut and paste the notes into the notes box with the original full res photos in your computer image files instead of copying the images with notes from DPC. I get a headache just thinking how much effort that would be.

Oh, man, that would require FINDING the original full res photos...

No, I'd be looking to kinda do a wholesale transfer to flickr or some other online storage place, I suppose. Or maybe just a dump to my hard drive so when I'm old and feeble-minded (like, say, next week) I could look back and say "I remember when!" as long as I had the notes to know what it was I was remembering...

This is really really weird shizzle. You see, I was in line to win like 10-12 posthumous Ribbons (easily )but I didn't because Don had me instantly pegged and I think he may have mentioned it in a comment or two or something so, his integrity holds pretty strong in my eye. I think if you read his comments the same holds true for other entries he's passed on giving his awards so, this doesn't seem consistent with his general MO. Anyway...bizarre shit.

One problem I see, and maybe it won't change, is always voting the "style" you like higher. I have given tens to shots I didn't like but, in my very novice opinion, were technically excellent and conveyed what I thought the artist was trying to convey. Wheeldd's(I hope I got that username right but I'm on my iPhone and just going by memory) Fine Art entry. I didn't care for it at all as far as the subject but it was so well done and so emotional that I had to give it a high score.

I think there should be more to voting than just a knee jerk "I like that. I don't like that" reaction.

I don't think there would be an automatic way to do that, though I'm sure it could be scripted by one of our scripting guru's on the site. Where would you be looking to keep the notes, in the image metadata or in a seperate text file accompanying each image?

Probably in a file with the image. I do like the way it is here now, and plan to keep it that way unless something drastic happens.

Ummm.... I don't know what to say to this thread... I want to fill it full of expletives but as I have learned from Andrew Jackson's mistakes, I'll keep my temper in check... I guess the best I can hope for is that this is an April Fool's joke, but its seems a long way to go for a joke, and if it is, I think its gone too far for my liking... Posthumous has done more for this site than anyone I can think of, and yes, that includes the SC... There, I said it... Now, having said that, if he is suspended... CANCEL ME!!!... I'm out... Has anyone stopped to question why membership is down??? Its garbage like this...I come here because I enjoy entering challenges and voting. I love the comments I get, good and bad... I don't care about RIBBONS!!! If I did, I wouldn't enter the shots that I do... BUTTTT... and a huge BBBUUUUTTT... If a few jackasses were cheating to try to get a ribbon, or win some stupid league... I DON"T CARE!!!... especially if the cost is someone like Posthumous... If the suspension sticks... I'm out... simple as that... Cancel me and delete my portfolio...

it might be possible for someone to script something, but you'd have to make sure it doesn't run afoul of the TOS ;-)

this whole situation just blows me away. i can't imagine where we're at is what was intended, but it sure is making the relevant a lot less relevant...

Screen shot, set up to automatically put them into a file would likely be the quickest way to your computer, and would bypass the one pixel gif thingy. That would allow you to move to the next shot by clicking the thumb at the top left of the page. Then you would still have to crop and upload them if you wanted to post them elsewhere with notes. I don't know how all that would mesh with DPC copyright if you posted them elsewhere with comments and notes.

I can probably find all the small sizes on my drive; I'd have to just go through one at a time and copy and past the photog notes and info to a word doc or some such then link them up later. That would be a pain. And I'd completely forgotten about the 1 pixel gif bit - that complicates things, doesn't it? I don't use the watermark so that's not an issue, but the 1 pixel gif is. Bah...

Actually, no. I'm old and feeble-minded. I do remember it really p1ssed people off, though. What the heck was it?

Honestly, none of this surprises in the least. It's probably shocking to the members that have only been on here for a year or two. We went through the Rose DiBiasi thing a year ago and the Rikki thing before that. I am glad to see the site council taking action. They aren't perfect but they are here for a reason and for the most part they do an excellent job.
