UPDATE - Found a solution - ACDSee Photo Manager does an excellent job with batch resize and convert format. Handles huge files quickly and without errors.

Thanks to the members posting recommendations. I tried them all and none of them could handle the task...

A friend in the property management business has over a thousand large building drawings (blueprints) that have been scanned to full-resolution TIFF files. The scan files are over 17000 pixels wide and the TIFF files are around 250 MB each.

Can anyone recommend a program with a batch/bulk mode to easily and quickly resize down the files and convert them to compressed monochrome JPG or PDF? We are not talking about photographic quality, just lines and words on paper. He wants to burn them to a data-DVD so he can view them on his laptop when at a building site.

Photoshop works but is very slow. IrfanView can display the TIFF files, but throws errors when trying to convert to JPG.

Try Picasa. It does batch convert pretty quickly.

Here's one I remembered adding to the Freebie imaging software list a few weeks back. Photo Magician. I have not used it myself yet, so I don't know how good it is. There may be some other apps in that thread that will do the job as well.

As for your question,You said that you want to easily and quickly resize down the files. In my opinion, you can compress your tiff files directly by a tiff compressor. And then
convert them to pdf.If you had a tiff processing control your work would be more convinient.That\'s just my opinion.Hope to help you.
