Thank you everyone, it's more fun then I thought it would be and the level of competition is really rather good. Far better then I thought I was.

My children asked me how come I was able to win at our local club with more entries in each category and the best I've done on DPC is fourth. I told them it's easier to be

judged by four people with no vested interest in the out come (judges are not allowed to enter the challenges they are assigned to judge) then hundreds who have entered the

same challenge.

Wendy, I know how you feel, we have several thousand books available to our children between our house book shelves and the ones in my wife's class and our two have read

just about all of them.

MAX!

Wow Max way to go, winning so much stuff and proving yourself as a photog! And so good to hear from you!

At this end, well I got this funny blue thing on my profile page...still don't really know how it got there...*wink wink*

Hello everyone. I so gald to see the camaraderie is still alive and well within the house of suckdom. I miss everyone and all the fun and challenges. I
have been devoting all my time towards earning a degree in aviation. I hope that I will make time and begain to be a part of things again soon.

Stopping in again here. Hoping to get back into the photo swing of things finally.

I actually began my photo course last night at the local college. Weird feeling walking around a college a good decade after I last did !
There are about 10 people in my class. 2 or 3 look like college kids, the rest are my age or older. The teacher seems nice enough, and is a long-time pro and a long-time teacher as well.

I'm VERY envious, Lea! Keep us informed if you have the time - I'd love to hear how it goes!

Oh cool! I was looking at taking some at my local college but the only one I really wanted to do was a Wedding and portrait one and its only about $85, but theres a prerequisite of a beginner class and its about $200. I don't really know if I want to pay that much for information I might already know.

I joined a team for DPL (it's the #6 team, no name yet) and there's a few Team Suckers on it.

I have an entry in for Waiting and I don't care how it does, I like it! :)

Got my first brown after 366 challenges.

Is it really that bad or just bad luck?

I've toyed with the idea of joining a real-world camera club again (was a member of one many moons ago) however never thought they'd offer me enough in comparison to DPC, or anywhere close to the same value for money... perhaps it's time to reconsider. :)

I belonged to two different clubs for a while, now just the one. The other was a bunch of pretentious, no-talent snobs with that whole "Film & No-Photoshop is the only REAL photography" attitude. With the other club, while it does have a few decent shooters, it's really amazing how much an education from the DPC school of hard knocks is so much more comprehensive. Things that I consider basic and a requirement here are completely alien to some of these folks, and having over 200 challenges under my belt, it's kind of patently obvious to me that the mistakes I have made, and the things I've learned from competing here, have given me a clear advantage over these folks who have maybe at best entered a dozen or so competitions.

Two years ago in their "B" division, I got second place for the seaon by two points under first having only entered two of three competitions, last year, I won by more of a margin than the second place winner scored in overall points. This year, I'm in the "A" division, against the best this club has to offer, and there are genuine pros in the class, and though I'm not cleaning house, I'm consistently winning ribbons.

I've never been more grateful for this place than when I sit in a club meeting and listen to someone's frustration at trying to figure something out that if I need to, there's a tutorial, or I just know someone I can ask.

This place is pretty awesome.....

Bad luck? Display your Brown Ribbon with pride! I have many (though not as many as some here).

Could I ask for some TS assistance with a popularity contest please? LOL! It's a photo contest on shutterfly for the theme birthday. You do have to register to vote, but it's really who gets the most votes that wins. I'm sure I don't have a chance, but I'm willing to beg for votes. The thing is there is no way to tell how many votes you have. Here's the link to the thread I started begging in. link

@Kelli

Tried, but work firewall blocked me. I'll have to try again later, at home. (Hope the site is dial-up friendly.)

I've entered all of 16 challenges in the last year, and only 2 in 2010. Should I let my membership expire?

For the few challenges you enter, if you have a urge to tweak a pixel or two (advanced editing), it is probably worth the membership.

You can always use portfolio space to show us what's up/down in Chicago.

Maybe the mr. dead man and ms. skewness can convince you.
