Sigh. Although 7.88 seconds per photo, assuming rapid and smooth transfer from one to the next, is probably about 4 seconds more than some other people give. Why do I take so long?

I have a 5.0000 yet again, by the way. Getting damn good at those!

Funny enough, yes it is fast and smooth, I have 7Mb/s internet, dual 28" monitors, etc... Totally good to go on that front.

Moreover here, though, is this: Even after I go back and spend ~1-3 minutes on each, fewer than 30% of my votes will be changed.. I feel first impressions are very important, although, you should know, nobody has, as of yet, been given less than a 4, and there are only a few of those.

Also a note on technique, I start in the middle (5) and move things up or down as needed (I give lots of 5's in my first round), then move on to the 6's and 4's, then the 7's and 3's, etc..

So, I don't really think I'm doing something here that is bad or wrong, now if I intended to leave it just as it is now, maybe, just maybe, that would be a little wrong, but again, first impressions are super important, IMHO. :)

Cheers..

First impressions are important. Yes. But do you get any enjoyment out of this voting style? Do you not find anything more to see than just to determine if the challenge is met and the first impression worthy? Perhaps it is just me. I like to SEE the pictures. The relevance to the challenge will be dutifully taken into account at the time I vote, but to start with I just like to SEE what people have taken the time to shoot, edit and enter. By the way, I too, will go back and re-evaluate after my first round of scoring. But that first round generally takes me a while. Perhaps I've just been here entirely too long, or I'm getting too old. Feel free to completely ignore my ramblings!

No worries, I just approach it like I approach my work.. Rough draft, refinement, finalization.

I find that works better than any other approach... You'll even notice many, many of my posts are edited.. Same thing going on there.

As per getting enjoyment, yes, absolutely! I really enjoy getting an overall feel for the challenge, and thereby giving myself a good feel of the field, which I feel helps me vote in a more challenge-specific fashion, rewarding creative and unique approaches, while rewarding redundancy and mediocrity with mediocre scores. Obviously, I do try to stick to my initial response, but like I said, something like 1 out of 3 images will merit an adjustment (sometimes minor, sometimes major..)

Wish someone would seriously adjust my score up after seeing just how cool my image really is ;)

Deb, you make good sense for me. I haven't voted yet, won't do it until I have time to sit at my big nicely calibrated screen. I have scrolled through and will no doubt do that a second time before beginning the voting process. And then will probably go back and look a fourth time before rollover and my vote is final. I often find I miss things first time around.

Maybe I'll have my "love it or hate it" entry out of this one. Probably not. I need something unconventional to achieve that.

I think the swings are uniform across the board. Some sort of rather odd voting phenomenon taking place. It'll all balance out by the end of the week. In the early stages, though, it is annoying.

Not a big surprise. Might fit better into the Fine Art challenge :)

i'm expecting about 3.2 on mine (0 effort, crap picture) however seem to be bouncing between 4.2 and 6 at the moment lol. I think it's a love it or hate it pic.

Is there a rookie-mistake vent thread?

This is my second challenge and it is all baby steps for me. My first submission in the garden challenge was processed under CMYK color settings in PS which completely washed out the colors. I also messed up the image size. Now I finally figured out how to set the save for web to monitor RGB, but it turns out my monitor at home is way out of whack. What was a nice, bright image last night now at work looks like it's completely dark and over-processed. Gosh darn it!

I guess I have nothing to complain about after seeing what most of you are getting. Seems like a cycle of harsh voting. It is what it is, I suppose.

Sometimes you have to totally blow people away with an awesome, unbelievable shot just to get them to say "Eh, it's ok".
