After a few request I have placed the original and the edited version of my Milky Way photo with some of the processing steps I took to get the edited version.

I assume you had the camera mounted on an equatorial mount with a clock drive, as I do not see any evidence of trailing.
165 seconds! The best I can get is about 30 seconds with my Minolta, not nearly long enough to capture this level of detail.
Great photo!

yes sort of, I dont have an EQ mount, but I do have a wedge that puts my scope in the eq position and tracks very well. It does very well for single exposures of 5 minutes or so

Spectacular shot! I REALLY have to get an adapter. It pains me to see my 8" telescope and Digital Rebel in the same room on a clear night. I've taken a few shots through the scope using a the camera on a tripod- bleahh! Works well for birds, though.

Soup, I have an 8 inch scope now, but I am trying to sell it to get a smaller 5 inch refractor on a good EQ mount. I really dont need a bigger scope since members in my Astronomy club have big scopes I get to view through, plus I get to look through a 36 inch scope from time to time at the observatory I volunteer at for public star parties.
