if I pay for your one-month membership, do you promise to quietly turn on your watermarks, then quietly go away and never come back?

Sad. Just sad.

Wow it is sad......I didn't realize if a company improved there product that I had a right to it without paying for it. I wonder if Canon would replace my 5D since they came out with the 5DII and didn't tell me there were going to upgrade/improve the camera.......Hmmmmmmm

When the images were originally uploaded, the frequency of image theft was miniscule compared to now. That has changed and you can verify that in the forums over and over and over again. Nobody said I lost something, the problem is that DPC keeps losing something, its our images! The images are still protected exactly the same way as when I signed up which is just the way images thieves like when reproducing my DPC images into postcards.

I think the part that makes me want to choke is how stupid you think the membership is. I dont really care about the site policy, I just want my images protected or I want the ability to yank them. All the other crap is just BS and meant to make it look like I'm cheap, use meds, wear dresses, employ child slaves, worship false gods, yada yada yada. Who cares.

WATERMARK ALL FORMER CHALLENGE ENTRIES!

So, you weren't prescient and could figure out that DPC was going to take off in popularity, so you went ahead and uploaded your images.....now it's the sites responsibility to take care of your lack of foresight? You knew perfectly well when you uploaded them that it was at your own risk. If you state othewise, you're either a fool or a liar. Now you want to try to impose your will by getting belligerent and abusive? The site *IS* making efforts to enable these watermarks and that still doesn't suit you......what a surprise! And anyone that has the audacity to call you on it gets another heapin' helping of your vitriol?

That's *SO* special!

So why don't you just spell out exactly what it is, in detail, what the site must do to please you. And limit judgements, remarks, opinions, and the rest of your poisonous garbage to what it is that YOU feel has to be done for you. Don't pretend that you have anyone's interests other than your own in mind.

OK, back to the main reason for this thread.

I prefer the darker watermark now over the white one. Our eyes are attracted to brighter colours than darker ones, that may be why I'm liking the black one. On the right side too rather than the left.

Still waiting on the launch pad. ClubJugglebeat you to it.

Just waiting for the watermarks to kick in.

I have no beefs with any of the members here. I wish you all well.

The light is so bright and drawing me in. Is that grandma? My goodness, yes it is!! ;-)

I've been using both depending on the image. In some cases either one totally disappears depending on the photo.

I can't believe you guys would pay a membership for someone who has no interest in submitting new photos on DPC when there are so many others would love to have a membership and would submit photos.

Nuzzer, I give out over 10-15 free memberships a year. What I do with my money is my business. If I want to spend it on someone that actually has to go through with something he has threatened to do, then so be it.

Edited to add: I actually, in the end, have his membership here sitting on my desktop for someone else, as someone else did pay for a months membership for him, to do what he wanted to do.

I wish they would have extended the watermarking to non members at least on past entries, I understand the wanting to make it more enticing to become a member but it would be nice for everyone to be able to protect their past images and make their future decisions based on whether they care to protect them or not. For me I can not justify spending money on a membership at this time but plan on being back hopefully by mid summer but I will not be entering any more images until I am back as a paid member so I can protect them (not looking for a free membership, I like to pay my own way).

I think maybe you missed the point: a large number of folks were willing to fork over some money to get the person to leave. Speaks volumes....

edited to reiterate:

He kept threatening to do something if he was 'bought' out. His bluff was called. He got his wish. His stuff is now watermarked, we lost a photographer that was very good, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Although I have not posted since page 1, even just reading through, I contemplated buying the guy the membership to go away. Then I thought to myself, I'm paying for a guy to go away, there will just be another to replace him, and sadly, we fall into the trap of acknowledging them. So... I'm am going to formally BEG for an "ignore user" button in the forums. If for nothing more, than to help prevent threads like this from happening again. If we could ignore people like this, we take their power away. We are partly to blame for this because we are the ones who acknowledged his posts. To Juliet, I hope you gift that membership to someone who truly needs it. I don't mean any disrespect by that, like you said, how you spend your money is your business, but I'm sure their are some users floating around who would love to have it, people who would participate and get enjoyment out of it. Oh and please choose a user who has a score average of 4.5 and a 6.5 average vote given would ya :)

Ahh, civility.

Perhaps this desire is echoed by many past members/users, so if it is not a coding issue, why not allow all users this option? You could offer it for all past entries and require membership for future entries, but that seems strange (and difficult). The watermarking may or may not work, may or may not be used by all, but, as I said earlier, at least it is a new Site Feature which is being deployed, as requested. Give it a try (using or viewing), but most of all see that the man behind the curtain is trying to give you the options you state you want. You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can please some of the people some of the time. Which 'some people' are being pleased, I hope are the ones that DPC values for the right reasons, but that is not my call.

If every good photographer with strong views in the Forums were pushed out of DPC, you'd be left with a 'harmonious' Forum and a poorer collection of Photography. Most 'artists' have strong views & personalities, just because you don't like what they say (this place isn't primarily about forum writings), doesn't mean they aren't good at 'art'. I rarely read the Forums so don't really know the issues some of you seem to have with Ivo, but I do look at the photographs and would miss seeing images of the calibre of Ivo. I also think DPC would be poorer without that 'contribution'.

Great job Langdon, thank you!

Personally I think the one thing that those with Ivo's argument are missing, is that if you become a paid member, and then watermark your images the watermark stays even if your membership should lapse. I think it is a great draw to get more paid members and I feel much safer knowing that if and when I leave the site or my interest in photography declines that my images will still be watermarked.

I am sure there would be some legal consequences to doing that.... I also think that when you purposely create something that disregards the wishes of the photographer that owns the image, as well as the owner of the site that you would be in violation of terms of use which would get your membership terminated as well as anyone else that uses your plug-in, and likely a lot more then just that:

These are tough times and I heard there are people in this thread willing to pay for annoying members to leave. Let's start the bidding at $50...
