No, clearing the cache doesn't fix it, nor does logging out & back in.

okay. open a ticket describing the situation to langdon so he can look into it. that may be the quickest way to fix it.

Where is the "hide red border". I don't see it. I also don't see a red border anywhere.

When you go to your portfolio and click on a challenge entry then click on update watermark options. When that window opens, you'll find the check box for removing the red border.

A thought.

I think the reason many people are not liking this is because as soon as we click our image we instantly look for the watermark. Seeing it there doesn't click in our heads because this is new and we are the creators of the image, without the watermark. It's like a blemish right now because we're not used to it. To those who turned them off, give yourself some time before deciding to not use the watermark. Others who view our images for the first time don't immediately see the watermark like we do. Our brains will get used to this and we won't even notice them after a while.

Sometimes I browse images on stock sites and after a while I don't even notice their watermarks anymore.

Give it time folks.

I too think they kind of take something away from my images but I'll get used to this after a bit I'm sure. I'll report back in a few weeks. ;)

I'm curious...if a member changes their username will all watermarked images be updated automatically? And if so, how will that impact watermarks that have been custom placed? I'd wager an automated script would overwrite the custom placements...

centered watermarks sucks..

As I have chosen to be a "Non-Member", I have no way of watermarking my legacy pictures and certainly will not pay $25.00 solely to do so. All legacy images, prior to this change, should be watermarked and this policy should only apply to challenge entries from this point forward. If watermarking is to be used as a marketing tool, that should be made clear at time of submission so those who are not eligible are clear they are not protected. Otherwise, watermark all my legacy photos and I'll stand down.

If I could watermark them myself, I would, but that requires renewing my membership and I am not prepared to do so. If not, please remove my images altogether and I'll bid you adieu.

When you uploaded those images, no watermarking feature existed. So when you uploaded them, you were apparently comfortable with having them on the site without a watermark. You also would have had no expectation that you'd be able to add a watermark later. None of this has changed because we've given members the ability to add watermarks. If you wish not to renew your membership, that is your privilege, and if you wish to leave, that is your privilege too, but please don't pretend you've lost something you had coming to you as a result. Your images are exactly as protected as they were when you made the irrevocable decision to upload them to the challenges.

the corner ones are simply advertising, they can be cropped out

Centered watermarks make you loose your audience on a site where selling your picture is not the no1 priority, but showing your work and getting feedback is.

I like to go to musea, paintings, photos etc.
A signature in the corner, that is normal. But I do not see Matisse, Van Gogh, Renoir, Cartier Bresson, Adams etc signing their picture or painting smack in the middle. That is absurd.
If they would do that or the museum would put a big stamp in the middle, I would loose interest and not visit anymore.

I have the same feeling here. If this centered watermarking takes a high flight, I would consider not renewing anymore (not a thread, but a fact) because I do not want to view them anymore anyway. It is horrendously scarring the photos. Terrible, takes the joy out of viewing the results.

I can also go to DPC prints, buy your print, put it on my hq photo scanner and digitize it. If I really can make some money with your photo it would be a cheap enough way. Do you want a big watermark in the middle of your print now?

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of this crap with abusing Langdon and the site about something you had complete control over in the first place.

You posted your images knowingly, so you don't have any reason whatsoever to be getting abusive about it now.

Accept responsibility for your actions and shut up.

And quit acting like you speak for the general populace......I don't want to be associated in any way wityh your rantings and demands. I don't want watermarks on my images, and don't give me any crap about it either. Your opinion and needs are of one person and one person only.......remember that.

You don't get to dictate site policy.

hum ... lol ?
I was thinking the issue was about protecting pictures ... but it's easy to get the original pic even if it's watermarked/overlayed/blurred/explicit-content...

If you just need to replace "something" by "something" in the url of the picture, this protection is just crap that protects you from dumb people (sorry Langdon).
The picture should be given by a unique page, in exchange of a token expiring on the first use. This is much better than overlay protection !

For pictures thieves on dpc : don't waste your time clonig out the watermarks ...

Edit : clean up some details

Ironically most of those (not saying you) that want to free Tibet were against freeing Iraq. Hmmmm.... :)

When the images were originally uploaded, the frequency of image theft was miniscule compared to now. That has changed and you can verify that in the forums over and over and over again. Nobody said I lost something, the problem is that DPC keeps losing something, its our images! The images are still protected exactly the same way as when I signed up which is just the way images thieves like when reproducing my DPC images into postcards.

I think the part that makes me want to choke is how stupid you think the membership is. I dont really care about the site policy, I just want my images protected or I want the ability to yank them. All the other crap is just BS and meant to make it look like I'm cheap, use meds, wear dresses, employ child slaves, worship false gods, yada yada yada. Who cares.

A 1-month membership would allow you to take advantage of the new feature to protect your legacy images from a "new" threat. If the problem isn't worth 5 bucks, then save your two cents.

Interesting, okay, here is the deal. Lets get Langdon to buy it, I watermark all my images, and when done, erase my user account and we'll all be fine.

I had paid my membership dues for years Shannon. Protect the images.

Anybody willing to pay for my eviction?? Its on sale today for 5 bucks!!!

Good idea Shannon! Thanks. ;-)

Ivo, if I pay your five bucks for you, will that help? Be glad to do it for the good of the site.

Bless you my dear. It will be a good investment, I promise.

But remember, it does not solve the problem for all the other people who are getting the short end of the stick but I will assure you it will be the last you will hear from me.

Are you reading this Shannon?

When complete, please delete my user account. Just allow me a few hours to get this done.

Make sure you put them in the middle. :-)

Update - can't do a $5 gift membership, it seems, only the full year. I've already given my quota of those for awhile. Latest one to someone who has had the audacity to get two ribbons since then, bless her heart...

So I guess we have to listen to you for awhile longer. Sorry about that.

Hmm, and Langdon was watching too.

I know he can make the magic happen.

Any other takers?
