This is not meant to start the old debate of how people can steal pics....
But I was surprised how EASY Windows 7 Snipping Tool....
a person doesn't even have to go through the trouble of right clicking to steal a photo, just simple drag the mouse around what you want.

So, be careful if you post large res photos are photos without logos.

My sister took all the photos on my website within just a couple minutes....They were already lower res photos but they looked same quality online, but could not print larger than a 4x6 with any quality....

Well, there's been many screengrab programs available for a long time that do the same thing. The only difference is that MS finally built it into the operating system. I find I still prefer to do a printscreen and then paste it into my image editor.

The transparent overlays are nothing more than a minor deterrent and a notice that these are not free offerings. If someone still wants them, they are easy enough to take.

What's interesting is that the transparent overlay forces thieves to use some method of screen grabbing. The end result of this is that the "Image_Reuse_Prohibited" portion of the file name is removed. Because of the incredible stupidity of most image thieves, the file naming has actually been a good tool for finding stolen images. So in the end, the transparent overlay is a double-edged sword. It thwarts the hopelessly computer-inept, but can actually make it harder to find images stolen via screen grabs.

Thwarting 98% of the public is probably good. ;)

Yes, I do agree that for the most part, at least at this point in time, the end result is a reduction in stolen images.

it comes down to the fact that if people want to steal photos, they can do it. Right click protection and whatever else don't solve it, just mean it takes more than 5 seconds to take a pic.

Even without Windows 7 you can always do a screen capture and crop it in MS Paint if you're really bothered.

What overlay? I use Firefox and ABP and the images retain the Image_Reuse_Prohibited title too. Most people who use FF also have ABP installed so image saving is a non-issue.

Going off to look for an extension I was unfamiliar with...
