Is there a third option in this? Something like taking the top 3 and the lowest two scores from each team? I understand the desire to have your scores count, my concern is what happens if one of your teammates is not able to enter each week? Does your team suffer? When you only use 4 or 5 of the votes, there's no problem if someone misses. But when you use all 7, a zero makes a big difference in the average that week. Or perhaps if you are missing a team member in a week, his score is assigned as the average of the others, or the same as the lowest scoring member?

The point of this eventual change would be to force every team member to enter every week. It's DPChallenge here, not DPVacation ;-)

yup, I realize that. But on a different side challenge, my son lost his partner and was never able to be competitive again because half of his score was zero.

Also, life happens. There have been deaths in the family, people moving 1/2 way across the world, they shouldn't have to think they need to get an entry in before they deal with life. If you just don't like the challenge, that's one thing, but there should be something in place for people who need to take a week off without having to worry about how it's affecting their team.

I agree with vawendy that requiring all members to participate every week would be impractical. In addition I believe that any sort of averaging of the scores of those who did enter would put pressure on the weaker members to not enter at all.

I don't think I can participate in the DPL if participation becomes mandatory for every single challenge. I have exams every 5 weeks :S this sucks.

I coach kids soccer, I tell everyone on the first day you have an obligation to every other person on the team to be at every single practice and every single game. If you sign up to be on a team you are obligating yourself to that team. There are EXTREME situations that can't be avoided, but these are rare.

I agree with the obligation, however I suspect that some people do have situations that will prevent them from entering every single week. Should people who know/suspect that they will miss a week or two be excluded from entering the league. This would make the competition less inclusive.

Whoa! What's up with the poll skewing towards counting EVERY team member score instead of the top 4 or 5? No matter how good the intentions I can see this not working? I participated in numerous WPL/DPL's previously and there wasn't a single team I was a member of that had more than 80% of the team members participating in every challenge. It's crazy to expect that...

I was on one of those teams... and a captian another time. It would not be realistic to expect every team member to submit something every week. My last team we had a big focus on increasing our scores individually. That seemed to work well. That was so long ago.

Team Southwest, second DPCO: two or three missed entries if I recall correctly. However, something should be in place to avoid a zero for a missed entry. I guess that will be the next poll!

I was shocked at the results of the poll as well...It will definitely change the strategy of captains if it is all 7 scores counting...A consistent person with a lower average will be more valuable to the team. Looking at the results I think the poll is reflecting non DPL users just leaving the default to "each photographer" to see the results. I just can't imagine 163 DPL participants voting that way.

There a pretty large gap between the two options. Maybe 6 top scores out of 7 would be more agreeable.

ETA: Between the two current options, I'm leaning toward top 4. Life gets in the way sometimes.

My first thought was that all scores should count, especially if they are putting limits on how many regularly high-scorers can be on a single team. I changed my choice however when remembering how an absent team member can sway results. I agree that 6 (or 5) out of 7 is a good way to go.

double-bump...

This poll still shows the preference to be requiring all team members to participate each and every week for their score to count. ???

I think the poll results (both this and the prior one) show the strong preference against having stacked teams of ringers, er RibbonHogs, that could run away with the league.

Here's a possible solution: Require the captain to pick 5 starters each week, then use the top 4 scores of those 5 to calculate the score each week. Add in a rule that requires every member of the team to start at least 50% of the matches, and you've pretty much guaranteed that everyone on the team will have to contribute at some level.

thanks to this thread i changed my vote to having top scores count. i voted against it at first thinking about the 'loaded' teams.
i dont know how many people will be n the teams, maybe have only the lowest score removed.

As far ass people who know they wont compete every time, maybe they shouldn't take part in this.
Also, i think remember last time you can substitute teammates if one wasn't able to continue. that take would care of any unforeseen tragedies

Given how close this vote is so far, I'm pretty sure that SC will take both points of view into consideration before we set a final structure.

Not that any team would "draft" me with my avg, but there's no way I could commit to participating EVERY week as, you never know what will happen in life, and I wouldn't ever want to let teammates down. :-( I'll just have to wait and see what the final decisions are about both how teams will be set up, and what kind of a commitment is required, before deciding on whether to try to join a team or not, even an "I don't give a darn" team. ;-)

When is it starting? In February or March?

I have a feeling that a lot of the peopl who are voting for "Require all team members to participate each and every week for their score to count" have not participated in the League before. There would be a lot of 0.000 as scores.
