Best of 2009 is finally announced. There will be a ton of entries. Lets break it down further ...

Rules:
1. Enter the Best of 2009 competition

2. Sign up here BEFORE the entry deadline

3. Select ONE category from the following list:
Landscape/Nature/Animals
Studio/Portrait
Travel
(taken at least 100 miles/160 km from your home)
Creative/Abstract (lensbaby, blur, extreme HDR/Topaz, etc.)
Black & White

4. Winner is the highest scoring entrant in each category. Ribbons to be awarded. (Minimum of 20 entrants per category).

5. Juried winners may also be announced, which may differ. See below.

I'm open to other categories (macro, street photo etc), but tried to keep these broad to select categories that: (i) are likely to get a large number of entries and (ii) are defined broadly enough to avoid any risk of giving away the identity of entries under voting. There is overlap in the categories; you can only enter one.

I would also love to include a juried component to this challenge , where a small group (5-7 max) of established members with sufficient voting experience and history on the site discuss the entries in each category, regardless of score, after the challenge and come up with a top 5 in each category to be announced within a week after the site results are announced. If you are interested in participating on such a jury, and will have the time to do it the first week of February, please PM me.

What the heck, I'll sign up. Since I've only broken a 6 twice in free studies, I'm not hoping for much.

landscape/nature/animals category.

I'd rather see more categories, however. I'm not sure that nature or animals can really compete with a fabulous landscape.

I'm in with a macro, not sure what category that would fall under. Studio?

Landscape/Nature/Animals though my shot could possibly fit other categories as well.

Can we change our mind before submission cutoff?

I'm having trouble submitting because the rules say taken in 2009 and in the submission page it say `taken 15th januari or later`so I´m unable to submit my photo.
Already sent a message to the administration.......

Looks like there will be some interest in this one. Great.

Up to you to decide. We don't have a macro category, because I wasn't sure there'd be enough entries to justify it, and besides you'd probably scare off the competition anyway. :-)

Most definitely. I'll post a final list of entrants and categories after rollover.

I'll find my best creative/abstract unless you decide to do a black/white category.

I like this idea. I'm going to add B+W to the list of categories. Not sure we'll get enough Creative/Abstract entries, but I'm going to leave that one up there as well.

sure, count me in. Black and White.

You can count me in, too, under Landscape/Nature/Animals...unless Macro becomes available.
01/15/2010 07:06:33 PM · #21
I'll play but I haven't made up my mind yet what I'm entering.
01/15/2010 07:29:08 PM · #22
I will join, but I will enter the 100+ miles away from home category, seeing everyone else is joining the landscape category.

Well my black/white could potentially wind up being a creative/abstract(or vice-versa)so let me know which group I should go with. I haven't really started looking yet..

Heck, why not! B&W I think
01/15/2010 11:02:44 PM · #25
I'll play but not sure what category yet.
