I voted on it like a freestudy and didn't try to figure out who anyone was. And then going back and commenting trying to figure out who the photographer is. It really is a freestudy with just fewer entrants. I think it's a bad idea to vote based on how well you think it matches someones style because you would have to know everyone who entered and you would have to know what they think their style is. Some people shoot such a variety that they don't limit themselves to a particular style....there are also new people who haven't developed a style (or you just don't know their style yet because its their first challenge).

I'm having fun just viewing the submissions, making a few guesses here and there. At the end of the day, I just enjoy seeing the photos people share. I could be rather odd in that respect, however.

nah, you're not odd. i enjoy that, too. :)

Well, browsed through them

2 made me go WOW, I am going to vote later and I can see a lot of high marks coming up. There are some amazing images in this challenge, the best I have seen in a while. Really impressive!!!!

The challenge description clearly said to have fun. I did shooting and voting, so I TOTALLY met the spirit of the challenge!

Don't agree. Why call it Signature Style if that doesn't come into play. There's no point then in the Challenge nor having the description as it's written. A Free Study is a Free Study and here we were supposed to shoot an image that is particular to our style. In other words, I could shoot a straight portrait, food or a landscape which could be perfect for an FS entry but if there's nothing that can be identified with me as the author of the work then it doesn't really fit the theme.

I took that shot and for arguments sake, let's say we all agree that it's amazing (for the moment) but since it in no way relates to my style or what I'm know for it really doesn't fit the Challenge IMO. Free Study...fine.

I'm not suggesting people not enjoy the images or have fun...just speaking to the point of the Challenge.

"Have Fun"? I didn't know those two words could negate a description. Does that mean if there's a Chinese Women Challenge and at the end of the description it says "let's have fun with this" we could enter landscapes and pets? Just bustin chops and I don't mean to sound "pedantic" but I don't see the point.

Carry on, my friends...

So are you saying that you would vote a photo down if you couldn't guess who's style it is? Keep in mind there are over 84,000. So I should get voted down if you don't know my style? What if my style is to be random? Can you guess my style then? Without a list of who's in the challenge, you can't possibly vote on being able to pinpoint someones style.

Again if a new person were to enter this challenge...has no photos uploaded to his/her portfolio...he gets a extremely low score because you can't guess his/her style?

To be honest with you I have no idea what to do BUT I wouldn't "vote anything down" for any reason, although I would vote something WAY up if I recognized the Photographer...for sure. I just think it's a strange Challenge and thought so, the minute I read the description because it's nearly impossible to vote on based on what they asked for.

Oddly, in icy cold weather there's almost nothing around that I really like to shoot and it would take hours of freezing my ass off to get anything, if I'm lucky. I entered a pretty basic shot that provided a good base that to show off what I usually get recognized for and a style processing that seems to get me pegged a lot. There's maybe 25-30 people around who will pin it without question, if they're looking but I doubt it will get high votes for anything other than that.

My only goal was to get recognized (a lot) and break a 6.

eta: I can smell my score tanking with every word I type. lolololol

This would have made a GREAT side challenge where anonymity isn't an issue.

After all my ranting about getting rid of side challenges, that's the perfect use for a side challenge!!!

Edited to add: please berate me about side challenges...I was just saying he had a good idea.

I didn't vote on whose picture I thought it was (as I'm new and don't really know folks styles yet, much less remembering names or user names) I voted on the picture.
And if y'all are voting because you think you know someone's style then I'm probably doing better than I thought I was as this is my first challenge! :-)

I am still pretty much new at this site (and photo challenge in general) so figuring my signature style isnt quite reasonable. So I decided to submit the style that I have been practicing the most since I came to this site. I doubt anyone will be able to guess my shot because the quality of the shot has improved to much, and yet still I am just barely breaking out of the 5s. It would be nice for some critique comments but with almost 200 entries and a shot that is scoring as middle of the road as this I wont be surprised if I get few if any comments.

Me too. Brought me down two entire tenths. I have been recognized by three people, but also mistaken for an absolutely amazing photographer. That was/is such a nice surprise.

One great comment, one person found me, and the score is up and down.
There's a couple I think I know but I haven't decided whether to wager a guess if I'm not really sure. I definitely think the person who gets the most correct answers should pick the next challenge (or at least get a ribbon).
