I don't think this has been mentioned before, but I was just so blown away by this that I had to post. This guy's lived twenty lives in the past couple of years. If you have some time, read the incredible story on the front page of this website, "THE MENTAWAI". If you ever have enjoyed travelogues, or the Palin stuff, this will be an especially good read, partly because it's Joey Lawrence, but mostly because it's a fascinating and wonderful story.

Louis, I just wandered through some of Joey L's adventures, thanks to your posting that link.

Joey is one of those rare individuals who has both the curiosity streak and the willingness (stubbornness?) to do what it takes to satisfy and record his resulting adventures.

If you lot hadn't thrown all your money at him buying his expensive DVDs he'd probably be flipping burgers now. So don't be complaining now that he's swanning around the world living the dream on your cash.

Really cool! Wouldn't surprise me to see this on the National Geographic channel some day!

Actually, he has some sort of series on his life starting on TV on September 27 I think? The details are on his website, and I think one of the details was that it was possibly going to be picked up by the Discovery Channel, or National Geographic Channel, if there's such a thing (???) So there you go. :-)

Ok. This isn't inspiring, it makes me feel just plain old!

Look at how young he is, and what he's doing!

That's it -- my life's a failure, and I'm old. :)

Awww... You're not that old. I had a driver's liscense before you were born... (Actually I might have had it, and already had it suspended before you were born.

I started really paying attention to this site towards the end of the JoeyL domination, and wasn't quite sure what to make of the photos, personally. The video footage, and, specifically, the editing, on his video are stellar. Very powerful, but easy to relate to. But, the thing is, I don't feel small, I feel more hopeful. I feel as though dedication and vision can fuel you through to the end. Generally speaking, I'm rather young. But that doesn't mean I don't have a separate career I've concentrated on, and that doesn't mean that I'm unaccomplished. Joey is a force in photography, and its great. But don't compare yourself necessarily, and don't think you need to do the same to be successful. There are different goals, and different places in your life, and we may not be in Indonesia photographing a dying culture... but that isn't the point. To me, culture dies everywhere. I'm not sure I need to cross the world to see that. It happens abroad, and it happens locally. But, that it happens at all means I ought to be documenting it. The epic trip is always looming around the corner. Do something today, with yourself, is still the most personal of journeys. What does this mean to us today?

I've had a soft spot for Joey Lawrence, aka Joey L, ever since he picked one of my shots as a favorite when I had just joined here.

His style is not mine, but he's extremely good at what he does, and appears to have a real work ethic. I get a real kick out of being able to say, "I knew him (in the internet sense of the word) way back when".

Wow, that was certainly bitchy.

After looking at your photos, I bet you wished you had picked up one of his DVD's now.

(((Not so nice being on the bitchy end of comments is it!))

This was obviously posted with tongue firmly in cheek..

If not then I don`t think the DVDs gave him success, that was probably the agent who saw the talent, signed him up then managed to get him into a lot of high profile jobs.

But I still think you was kidding..
