| Is there a way to format my CF card for my 300D when there is an Err 02 (CF Card problem where removing and reinstalling does not work.) The user manual says to either remove and reinstall it or reformat the card, but I can't go into the menu with the Err. |

You can try use Windows XP if you have it. Some people will actually do it this way, but I would reformat with my camera just in case.

it won't let me past the err on the camera, therefore, the computer won't see it. |

| Best bet is to get a CF card reader for your computer. While this relatively cheap device will speed up your camera transfers and reduce battery usage, you can format it under windows. That should work. |

This might not be any help, but I had a similar problem recently and just gave the card a good cleaning with a soft cloth and some air. After that, the camera read the card just fine. I reformatted it in the camera, just in case and haven't had any problems since.

Maybe removing and reinstalling the battery with the card still in the camera will help. Just a guess, though.

As has been previously mentioned - buy a CF card reader, attach it to your PC via the USB. This will then allow you to format the card off camera.

drag and drop a photo from your pc to your card in a card reader.
then see if your camera will recognise the card.
if so, format the card IN THE CAMERA.
Why would anyone ever want to format outside the camera? My cards are only 256k and only take a second to format. I do it every time I take photos from card to pc and no longer need the pics on the card. Hope this helps.

I had a CF error and it ended up being a bent pin inside the 300d where the cf card marries up with the camera. I fixed it myself with some precision jewlers tools but the odds were against me.
I understand tech pretty well and it's my opinion that Canon and any other manufacturer could easily do away with this type of male/female pin connection which is so obviously an opportunity to damage the camera beyond repair.
My advice is to by one high meg CF card and NEVER remove it.

I thought it was bad to format with your computers especially if using FAT32 vs NTFS and the camera uses the other format.

When my Lexar 1Gb card screwed up last summer, the online support folks had me go through a number of steps, including formatting the card in the card reader instead of in camera. It wound up not working and I had to send it in for replacement anyway, but if the customer support folks have you do that to try to troubleshoot, it can't be all that bad. Good luck! :)
